In fact, I believe if you go and just poll 10,000 people in Alabama (for example), I doubt if you find more than forty to say that they have met such a character.

It’s more likely that you’d run into a banjo picker, a minister who speaks Latin, or a PhD meth user.

Interesting. I just had a friend ask me about racism in Alabama (not sure why). I told him that racism is now situational, then explained it this way.

"I don't want (insert race based insult here) eating in the same restaurant as me" -- ~ 1-2% of the population

"I don't want (insert race based insult here) going to school with my kids." ~ 3%

"I don't want (insert race based insult here) moving into my neighborhood." ~ 10-15%

"Daddy, I've met the man I'm going to marry." ~ Still off the charts....
