President-elect Donald Trump plans to display a letter he received years ago from former President Richard Nixon in his Oval Office, according to a new report.

Were you even old enough, back then, to know what was going on? From the looks of it, it doesn't appear so.
Ike indeed involved us there to begin with, but it was on a very limited basis. We could have easily cut our losses at that time with a minimum of blow back.
And yes, LBJ made a complete mess of things with his ham-handed tactics. He never tried to win.
Perhaps JFK would have gotten us out, but that is just wishful dreaming.
History irrefutably proves that JFK set a course for SE Asia that LBJ felt he could not back out of without severely damaging US credibility. It’s all on the LBJ tapes.
Love it.
The speech, of Kennedy's, that most people know, is the " ask not what your country.....", which was what his Headmaster, at boarding school, said to open assemblies, for many, many decades, even those BEFORE JFK went to that school! And JFK NEVER gave credit where credit was due.
Bay of Pigs mess...JFK's fault!
Nam....JFK sent troops in, because Jackie was a Francophile and made that deal, IN FRENCH, with JFK sitting there nodding, not knowing what was going on.
Cuban Missile Crisis? Yep....JFK's fault!
Khrushchev saw JFK as a naive, stupid kid and acted out with impunity. Modern day version? Putin & Obama.
There's more, much more; I suggest you learn about it all.
They did against Mr. Nixon!
But it was also Jackie, who wanted Jack to "save" the whole "FRENCHINESS" of Nam.
Now you’re just being ridiculous, to the nth degree!
You really don't know what you're talking about at all.
SPOT ON!
Your post gave me a flashback to being a kid in my backyard in Miami and seeing the presidential chopper fly over headed to Key Biscayne from Homestead AFB.
Two annotated transcripts of LBJ’s tapes from 1963 to 1965 are very revealing. He truly agonized over the decisions he had to make, but you have to believe that his hesitancy to escalate were easily readable by the enemy. The North Vietnamese KNEW that all they had to do was wait him out.
And they did.

And history records that when JFK took office, there were 900 military personnel in Viet Nam. By 11/22/63, that number was 16 thousand.

Well, he was my Commander in Chief, but I know you know everything.
I’ll try to explain it this way.
I am nerd (speaking personally). Most of my close friends were nerds. Very high IQ folks.
We were gifted in many ways, but we were also not so bright in some ways.
Intellectually gifted people are almost always lacking in other forms of intellect.
To put it another way...God, the real genius here, creates a masterpiece in every person.
Some genius is an exaggerated power in mathematics. But another person is blessed with a genius for judgment and common sense. Still another person is given the gift of writing or painting. Or another person has the gift of love...and is a great mother or father.
No one can have all the gifts except Jesus. The rest us have to make do with bits and pieces.
Hope that helps explain my comment.;-)
We shopped at Homestead and lived in Hollywood.
Yea, I debated mentioning that IDIOCY...I still remember it too. I have NO CLUE what planet Nixon’s brain was on.
“Liberals love Kennedy.”
So did Reagan...I’m old enough to remember the many times that Reagan cited Kennedy - mainly to point out how far left had moved, even back then.
“STOP DOING THAT!”
It’s well documented that Nixon tried (and failed) to use the IRS...I’ll continue to note that until that information is retracted.
Sorry.
True and yet, it was LBJ who tried to micro manage the Nam War and Mac, who did really micro manage it and LIE through his teeth about it all.
“JFK gave us Nam, screwed up the Steel Unions, and much more that was TERRIBLE/disastrous.”
Sorry but Nixon SET THE TABLE for the left to start destroying this country. That may not have been his intent, but that was the result.
But yes, you have valid points about JFK too...and don’t forget the Cuban Missile Crisis, that and pulling the support for Bay of Pigs was HORRIFIC. I’m no fan of JFK, but Nixon could have been better, MUCH BETTER, than he was.
