Former Rep. Chaka Fattah sentenced to 10 years in prison

Former Rep. Chaka Fattah (D-Pa.) was sentenced to 10 years in prison on Monday on charges of money laundering, bribery and fraud.

Fattah, 60, resigned from the House in June after being convicted on more than 20 counts of corruption. He'll have to report to prison by Jan. 25, 2017, to begin his sentence.

Prosecutors had called for Fattah to receive 17 to 22 years in prison.

Fattah had already lost the Democratic primary for the Philadelphia-area seat he represented for 22 years. His successor, Rep. Dwight Evans (D), was sworn in on Nov. 14 to finish the remaining weeks of Fattah's term.

Fattah’s son, Chaka Fattah Jr., is already serving a five-year prison sentence for fraud.

The elder Fattah was convicted of accepting a $1 million loan from a campaign donor for his failed 2007 campaign for Philadelphia mayor. He proceeded to repay part of the loan with federal grant money intended for a nonprofit run by former aides.

The former Pennsylvania congressman was also convicted of using nonprofit funds to repay his son’s college loans.

The jury also convicted Fattah of accepting an $18,000 bribe from Herbert Vederman, a former Philadelphia deputy mayor, in exchange for helping him secure an Obama administration post. Fattah’s efforts to lobby President Obama to hire Vederman were ultimately unsuccessful.

Looks like prison sentences run in the Fattah family, dad 10 years and son 5 years.

So, he'll get to be at the inauguration...

Didn’t realize he was a man. The only Chaka I ever heard of before was Chaka Khan who is or was a singer.

But who knows for sure. We can say he is a man, but to be good liberals, we need to know how he identifies. He may have a mans body but not identify as a man, for all we know........

I heard once that if a gov employee resigns before they are charged...they still get their pensons. that is why they resign right away.

Just found this.

Excerpt:

U.S. Rep. Chaka Fattah is expected to become the first federal lawmaker to lose his or her federal pension benefits after being convicted on corruption charges while in office.

Fattah, who resigned Thursday, was found guilty of racketeering, conspiracy, bribery, money laundering and other offenses following a monthlong trial.

Under House ethics laws, some of the counts against Fattah could automatically bar him from collecting his pension because they’re tied to crimes connected to his official duties in Congress.

Chaka Fattah, hattah, hattah
Chaka Fattah, hattah, hattah
Chaka Fattah, hattah, hattah
Chaka Fattah, hattah, hattah

I can’t stop this feeling
Deep inside of me
Girl, you just don’t realize
What you do to me

When you hold me
In your arms so tight
You let me know
Everything’s all right

I’m hooked on a feeling
I’m high on believing
That you’re in love with me
