Islamic State group fighters have re-entered Palmyra, nine months after losing the ancient Syrian desert city.
Monitoring groups say militants and pro-government forces fought fiercely in the centre of Palmyra.
An activist there told the BBC that the city was now "more or less" in IS hands.
Reports from Palmyra say about 50 Syrian troops were killed and there was an unconfirmed report that the rest were fleeing.

we can thank our obammie for this and his state department with a certain senator from az for this shit
That was a short lived victory:
Fighters from the so-called Islamic State group have been forced from the centre of the Syrian city of Palmyra, hours after they tried to retake it.
Russian air strikes forced the militants to retreat to the outskirts, Russia and local activists say.
The Syrian army also sent reinforcements to the city, reportedly diverting troops from Aleppo.
Bombed out or preemptively pulled out. Either way this doesn’t bode well for Assad holding Aleppo.
Need to find out how is financing these people...and kill them.
They were driven out by Syrian army and Russian bombs. Reportedly some 300 jihadis killed and 21 tanks left behind.
Assad will do fine. Aleppo is going to be the big prize.
Thank God there is a superpower opposing these well-funded terrorists. I’ll be even more relieved when the United States stops taking the wrong side in that civil war.
if you did that, the FBI and secret service would be knocking on your door
Reports on Russian news indicate that thousands of islamists have been sent to Palmyra from Mosul Iraq
Doubtful how many are even Syrian
This latest move by HEAVILY ARMED IS fighters (note Obama by official proclamation just authorized US weapons supply to “foreign forces” operating in Syria)
This move on Palmyra seems orchestrated to draw Russian and Syrian forces away from Aleppo, and to discredit Putin, who showcased the liberation of Palmyra just months ago by sending a Russian national orchestra to perform in the ancient amphitheater

The islamist vermin are distributing themselves among the civilian population of Palmyra and historic UNESCO sites, which hinders Russian air strikes
However by concentrating themselves by the thousands in this area, hopefully it provides an opportunity for Syria and Russia to encircle and eradicate yet another vermin hive
I am not even going to express what I believe the US military is being forced to support under the waning days of POTUS Caligula aka Barry Soetero

So the Russians are fighting Rebels, maybe one of these years, they will fight ISIS, of course, Assad had no problem supporting jihadists operating from Syria when the US coalition was in full force in Iraq. ISIS is his and his Russian sponsorers creation as much as what the doomsayers say about the US.
We needed a bigger presence over there in 2004; really.
So we are admitting the Russians and Assad aren't even fighting ISIS or barely so. Good.
