""Radical Far Left Group Demands World War I Memorial to Fallen Soldiers Be Torn Down Because It Includes a Cross"" The Bladensburg Cross was built in 1925 in Bladensburg, Marlyand in 1925.
The cross was a designed by mothers of local soldiers who lost their lives in World War I. The American Legion raised the money to build the cross on private land.
Now a radical far left group is demanding the cross be taken down. It offends them.
The Becket Fund reported:
For 90 years, a war memorial in Bladensburg, Maryland has reminded passersby of the ultimate sacrifice made by local soldiers in World War I. Yet today the ironically-named American Humanist Association argued in federal court in Richmond, Virginia, that the memorial honoring fallen soldiers must be torn down because it includes a cross.
Known locally as the Peace Cross, the memorial was erected in 1925 on private land with funds raised by the American Legion. It was designed by mothers of local soldiers who died in the war. They modeled the cross after those memorialized in the celebrated poem In Flanders Fields that stood row on row to mark [the] place where their sons lay.

So intolerant and fascistic.
How do they even have standing if its on private land? The judge should dismiss with prejudice and turn around and bankrupt those douchebags.

Unfortunately, it stands on a tiny strip of grass surrounded on all sides by Bladensburg Road, so it’s very unlikely that it is on private land at this point in time.
When I was a kid in the early 1950s my recently married older brother lived east of that Cross and my parents and I lived on to the west of it. The land and the road back then were often flooded by a nearby branch of the Anacostia River. People wanting to get from one side to the other would cross the flooded area in row boats.
Who owns the land?................

The Cross sits on a very small piece of land surrounded by the intersection of U.S. Route 1, and Bladensburg Road. That intersection has for many decades been known as Peace Cross. See my post below (forget the #). Doubtful it is on private property. Most likely deeded to the National Park Service.
I drive past that memorial virtually every day on the way to work.
On the way to work, I listen to the local talk station (WMAL). I can’t think of the number of times that they’ve talked about leftists having mounted efforts to have the Peace Cross torn down. They have yet to succeed.
Frankly, if it was going to be torn down, the Holder / Lynch Justice Department would’ve sponsored the effort through the courts. They didn’t manage to get to it and it’s a bit late to get started now.
Not this $^*& agan.
This is a great example of why Public Education (Indoctrination) needs to be dismantled, unfunded and returned to the Parents
It may be too late for that in 57 Counties with a large Population.
(There are 3,141 counties in the United States. Trump won 3,084 of them. Clinton won 57)
If that's the case, then the official and unofficial response from everyone should be "f--k you, you ignorant b-tches"...
Maryland “Freak State” PING!
In Tampa, the Confederate Memorial Park is privately owned and it flies the Confederate Flag. Nice place...
you are welcome - sometimes a photo is worth more than a thousand woods.
We may need a Bundy-like gathering of forces to tell these pukes to get lost....
