While I see some fringes hoping for that, I’d think the larger party will see the futility of it. Obama had to renounce both his Islamic faith and his “blackness” to win, and I don’t see Ellison doing either. FWIW, the election of Trump was as much a rejection of Obama as it was of Hillary.
The Dems will be running lily-white candidates in 2020; their demographic time-bomb is still years from electing someone nationally.
