Hospitals warn Trump and Congress of massive losses with Affordable Care Act repeal

The nation’s hospital industry warned President-elect Donald Trump and congressional leaders on Tuesday that repealing the Affordable Care Act could cost hospitals $165 billion by the middle of the next decade and trigger “an unprecedented public health crisis.”

The two main trade groups for U.S. hospitals dispatched a letter to the incoming president and Capitol Hill’s top four leaders, saying that the government should help hospitals avoid massive financial losses if the law is rescinded in a way that causes a surge of uninsured patients.

The letter, along with a consultant’s study estimating the financial impact of undoing the Affordable Care Act, makes hospitals the first sector of the health-care industry to speak out publicly to try to protect itself from a sharp reversal in health policy that Trump is promising and congressional Republicans have long favored.

When it was enacted in 2010, the health-care law was a product of a delicate balancing act among various parts of the health-care industry. Each essentially agreed to sacrifices in exchange for the prospect of millions of Americans gaining insurance to help cover their medical expenses.

Since Trump’s election last month, most health-industry sectors have quietly been trying to glean — and influence — the thinking within Congress’s GOP majority and the president-elect’s transition team.

If the ACA was such a finely tuned "delicate balancing act", why does the left keep saying we should "mend it, not end it"? Could it be that it wasn't so finely tuned after all, i.e. the WaPo is lying?

Besides, we had to "pass it to find out what's in it", so how could the "various parts of the health-care industry" have possibly known what they were signing up to in the first place? More WaPo lies.

John Kerry syndrome?
They were for it before they were against it.

WTP are thankful for our doctors, nurses, and health care givers. They are most certainly needed. What is not needed are the many layers we find when digging for answers as to where and how the money has been spent.

Healthcare and insurance industries thought they were going to rake in the money with obamacare federally enforced compulsory enrollment, while cutting the doctors and healhcare workers out of the deal, basically reducing them to the level of burger flippers.

That is what obamacare was all about. The whole premise was based on socialist style cronyism.

PURE BS, DUMBOCARE has driven hospitals, clinics and doctors out of practice.

Remember Sally Pipes warned about DUMBO’s Phony war on Doctors and Seniors. GOOGLE for it. Even Rush had an article on it.

Same here in NJ; many ERs are closing because of that (the requirement that they treat illegal invaders with no hope of getting paid). My town (which has been overrun by the illegal Bronze Horde) closed its ER/hospital years ago; there is still a medical facility there, but you can bet they’ll have your insurance information and payment arrangements before they even let you sit down in the waiting room.

Apparently if ObamaCare stays, the insurance companies close, while if it is repealed, the medical facilities taking the insurance companies’ money will close. Either way, both are beyond the financial reach of most Americans at this point...

Illegal immigration being stopped and immigrants returning to their own countries will help the emergency room situation overwhelmingly!!! The nurses and Dr.’s wont have a DAMNED thing to do!!!!

You are making the case for allowing them to stay (from the medical field’s point of view); school districts do the same thing: Without anchor babies and illegals, my town would have one public school building in use instead of the five or so we use. That is why teachers support open borders: more customers, and even if they don’t pay (as they don’t for healthcare), American citizens will.

As they build more, bigger, fancier hospitals on most corners it seems. Houston has a hospital building binge for sure.
