Yep.
A few years ago, my mother was talking to some black people and mentioned the words Afro American. Their eyes widened and later I told her that term isn’t used anymore. She got upset, hung up on me and called me back later to see what term was most ‘up to date’.
The AAs didn’t get upset. My mother is old and we all just quietly smiled to each other.
But yes, out of touch and needs to be put to pasture and retirement.
So what term is used...? I hear African American, I hear black....it’s all over the map!
I don’t know which changes faster, technology or correct racial terminology. I get eye rolls from my kids when I say “American Indian.”
A few years ago my Wife’s grandfather used a much older term. He was 88 at the time.
Blacks have been changing what they want to be called every few years, it is hard for anyone to keep up.
Changing words is a liberal trait to muddy the water- each time the use of the old words is a reason for attack- racist, sexist, misogynist, ist, ist, ist... It is political correctness at its finest.
My grandma would call them “colored”, even in the 90s.... that caused a few embarassing moments!

I use “Negro”, that never goes out of style.
