While a few designers have made news saying they would not dress the future first lady, Carolina Herrera said she'd be honored if Melania Trump wore one of her outfits.
The famed designer spoke about Trump on the red carpet before she received an honor of her own Tuesday night from the Women's Leadership Council at Lincoln Center.
...
But when asked if she would, Herrera said, "Of course I will, as the first lady of this country I will. Of course."
She added, "It is an honor to dress the first ladies of the country and it's something to do for the United States. It's not for myself. It's for the public."

Her style is refined... It will be a great change.
If Halston were still alive I bet he would.
Wait...I thought the liberals and the fashion design community decided they had to boycott our first lady, so as to celebrate diversity or some such thing???
I get so confused as to what you are supposed to believe to be a good liberal.............
I’m sorry, but the tempest in a teapot as to what designers will and will not do was silly to begin with. What I really want to see is video of the reporter asking that question and their reaction to her making a sensible reply.
THAT, I think, would be spectacular footage. Come on, media, stop rewarding sore losers.
Hannity was talking yesterday about the protection suite for AF1. He said it was for ALL Presidents, not just the one in office.
Same here. You dress a first lady regardless of political party. Because it is the classy thing to do.
Do you think MELANIA will wear an IVANKA creation? That would be a historic moment and an honor for her step-daughter.
Carolina Herrera represents a classic, tasteful, very feminine style. Perfect for a beautiful and classy First Lady such as Melania Trump.
Countdown 3,2,1...until someone like Cher or Streisand is quoted as saying, “That does it, I’ll never buy or wear another Herrera design again!”
If only we could have gotten this guy for Michelle:
For the public of course.
Finally a FLOTUS to be proud of.
A designer I actually like. Herrera’s style/Melania’s class will compliment each other.
All this controversy over ‘dressing the First Lady’ sounds so much like the British talking about dressing the Queen or some member of the Royal Family. I suppose when you honestly think about it, we do treat the occupants of the White House like Royalty, or at least their own party is likely to do this.
Melania is an elegant, worldly woman who knows how to ‘dress’ herself, but I’m sure she still appreciates being given the same respect verging on adoration that all First Ladies get at some point in their period of service. You can bet that The Donald is closely watching to see who says what about it and with what tone in their voice. He has an elephant’s memory for slights or for being dissed.
Beautiful!
I love these classic designs.
That’s gorgeous.
