Saudi journalist banned from media after criticising Trump

Jamal Khashoggi’s weekly column in Al Hayat newspaper was not published this week, after appearing every Saturday for almost 5 years

Saudi authorities banned journalist Jamal Khashoggi from writing in newspapers, appearing on TV and attending conferences, the Alkhalij Aljadid reported in Arabic.

This came after Khashoggi’s remarks during a presentation he made at a Washington think-tank on 10 November in which he was critical of Donald Trump’s ascension to the US presidency.

Two weeks ago, an official Saudi source was cited by the Saudi News Agency as saying that Khashoggi did not represent the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in his interviews or statements.

“The author Jamal Khashoggi does not represent the government of Saudi Arabia or its positions at any level, and … his opinions only represent his personal views not that of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia,” said a ministry source quoted by the Saudi Press Agency.

The official Saudi position on Trump's election was perhaps more accurately reflected by a former Saudi diplomat in mid-November who told the Washington Post: “Certainly, we are not expecting Mr Trump to be worse than Mr Obama was,” said Abdullah al-Shamri. Most members of the royal family, he said, “are happy with the result. We are closer to Republicans psychologically.”

Khashoggi's remarks last month at the Washington Institute, the Breaking Energy website reported, indicated that in his view Trump’s Middle East stances were often contradictory, especially regarding Iran. While Trump is vocally anti-Iranian, he supports President Bashar al-Assad in the Syrian conflict, which ultimately bolsters Iranian regional control and rightfully makes Saudi Arabia nervous, Khashoggi was reported as saying.

The Saudis are soiling their underwear at the thought of TRUMP’S presidency. They like realize that their dreams of continued Islamic invasion and colonization of the West are about to be shattered.

He might be banned in Saudi media, not U.S.

Interesting in what it may convey about the Saudi Royal Family’s attitudes. Banning journalists is nothing new in Saudi Arabia, but it is unusual to ban them for criticizing a foreign leader.

This may indicate a willingness by the Saudis to give Trump a chance. What I am getting from several sources, including an experienced diplomat, indicates that the Gulf states and Saudis are not nearly as upset by Trump’s win as the MSM would have you believe. They generally don’t care about his criticisms of Muslims and/or proposals for increased scrutiny. They percieve that Trump is a deal-maker they can work with.

Obama is perceived as less predictable, harder to work with, and too willing to accept Iranian positions for short term accomplishments. They think that Trump will drive a hard bargain, but then stick with it.

Saudis are angry cause they wasted millions trying to buy the election for the hildabitch. What with Barack hussein Obama installed as the vulture of Islam, they have become accustomed to buying US elections.

I disagree, the elements of the House of Saud (15,000 strong) in charge are generally not the same folks supporting ISIS/ISIL/DAESH. Those folks generally are those who have no access to the levers of power and want to overthrow the current leadership.

If you fear/hate someone, you normally don't prohibit criticism, you instead would reward it.

To find out who rules over you, find out who you cannot criticize - Voltaire. This means the Saudis want Trump to succeed and their own leftists emboldened by Zero for 8 years to STFU.

I have to disagree FRiend. Obama was the SA Royal Family's best friend due to his attempts to throttle the oil industry.

Obama stated often his desire to see gas prices at $4+ per gallon, which would have greatly enriched OPEC countries. Despite his attempts, the oil/fracking industry in the US has brought OPEC to its knees, to where they finally agreed to cutting production to keep oil at $50 per barrel.

Don't forget that SA kept pumping in an effort to destroy the US fracking industry, and succeeded to a certain extent. I remember traveling in Eastern NM and West Texas last year, staying at hotels that were 20% occupied vs. 85% the previous year.

The handwriting is on the wall for OPEC, Trump will NOT be their friend, as more sites will be open for exploration in the US.

Sorry, but the “House of Saud” has long been financing the advance of Islam into the West. They provide financing for the building of Mosques and financially support the Wahhabi imams teaching in those mosques and Islamic schools.

Wake up!

“Certainly, we are not expecting Mr Trump to be worse than Mr Obama was,” said Abdullah al-Shamri.

‘worse than..’... says volumes what they think.
