The Echoes of Weimar Germany Should Not Be Ignored
Real Clear Politics ^ | December 06, 2016 | Richard Cohen

Posted on 12/07/2016 6:13:52 AM PST by artichokegrower

Last week on MSNBC's "All In with Chris Hayes," a guest mentioned the new unmentionable: Weimar. The guest was Bob Garfield, a liberal media critic, and he was discussing Donald Trump. Hayes was mildly disapproving of the reference. "I tend to stay away from Weimar comparisons for a variety of reasons," he said. That would make sense if only Trump himself did not constantly bring it to mind.

There are no echos of Wiemar. Anyone claiming there is is a complete historic illiterate and infantile poltical hysteric without the slightest hint of a notion of a wiff of a clue of a fact. To compare the weak, poltical rootless, new democracy in Germany of the 1920/30s with the 200 plus years history of the US Constitutional Republic is a intellectually infantile argument.

Leftists poltical/media figures are quickly rendering themselves figures of mockery and contempt with these sort of absurd nonsensical hysterics. They fail to realize this sort of chicken little hysteria is going to do irreparable damage to their intellectual credibility going forward.

Donald Trump is over 70 years old. Seventy years after his birth, Adolph Hitler had murderd 6 million Jews - and millions of others - and started the worlds most devastating war. And lost it, killed himself, and had been dead for a decade and a half.

Donald Trump is not an especially power-hungry man. He’s fabulously rich by my standards, yes - but I am not crying poverty when I say that any number of people fit that bill.

The Luciferians had all of this ready to go for when Hillary won! The “Fake News”, the “Weimar Republic”, the “Russian’s Hacked the Election”, all of that was ready to go to justify the final take down of the middle of the country. They just didn’t figure that the middle of the country would win, because they thought they had rigged the election.

Cohen wished to make a point without using the now tired reference to Hitler. So, he thought he was being very, very, very clever, as all liberals do.

LOL, IMO Cohen is in violation of Godwin's Law.

I saw some moron on MSNBC while perusing for something to laugh at. I don't know whether it was this one or another one, but he was wringing his hands, hysterical because Trump might be speaking of his own subconscious proclivities when he denounces murderous tyrants such as Castro, Hitler, and Stalin.

As Rush says, when these people are not in power they're funny.

Would leftists rioting in the streets against the result of a free election feel Wiemarish to you?

There is an actual similarity with the Wiemar Republic.

The massive amount of social decay and debauched city lifestyle led to the working class people outside of the cities looking for someone to save them.

The whole “cabaret” idea came from the huge homosexual and transvestite population which had taken over the major cities, especially Berlin.

Part of Hitler’s promise was to get rid of the perverts and deviants. The problem was that he had a whole host of them in his first circle and cabinet. Besides being a burning anti-Semite.

I read the replies at RCP to this article. Quite a few people see the infantile ignorance of this argument. It was reassuring to me.

The Leftist with their cult of personality political dogmas fail to realize this is NOT about Trump. While yes, Trump does have his fans, the bulk of the people behind Trump see him as the messenger for their political movement.

From the Reagan Democrats to Perot in the 1990s to the Tea Party, the average voters have had a political agenda of “Leave me alone-Look out of the USA 1st, fix the broken things.”

The problem is average Americans have never been able to be organized as the pressure groups nor been rallied to an effective poltical voice.

Trump merely the 1st candidate who was able to give that moment an organized winning voice. Trump can lose the leadership of this movement as easy as he got it.

Contrast that to Hitler. Hitler WAS the movement. His cult of personality was inexorably wrapped into the Nazi movement. Nazism could not exist as an effective poltical force without Hitler.

We Are Real, We Are Truthseekers, And We Do Not Accept Mainstream Media Fake News!

“The essay I want to share with you is one the most excellent and far-reaching pieces of truth I have ever read. The writer is Carl Herman. Carl Herman is a National Board Certified Teacher of US Government, Economics, and History; also credentialed in Mathematics...he demands a clear vision of the current Mainstream Media hoax that is currently being played upon Alternative Media. He gives examples of the true hoax of Mainstream Media, which has been played on the American people for a very long time. That is how Alternative Media was born….we had to find our way from the darkness of lies to Light of truth. The Internet is both a positive and negative entity, but Alternative Media has become the positive force of the Internet...”

Cheney To CNN’s Barbara Starr: Trump Took Us To Point Where We Don’t Need You Guys Anymore

I think one of the reasons people get so concerned about the tweets is it is sort of a way around the press. He doesn’t have to rely upon, uh, rely upon — this is the modern era, modern technology. He’s at the point where we don’t need you guys anymore.

Nope. To make it “Weimarish” you would have to have rival gangs of Democrats, Republicans, Green party members and Libertarians all rioting and beating each other up in the streets while law enforcement either largely look the other way.

It’s LITERALLY Weimar Germany!!!!!!!!!

I find at least a couple of major exceptions: our Constitution, which has survived for 229 years; and states like Texas, with its history and ethos of "Don't Mess With Texas." There was no German state that was there to stand in opposition to Hitler once he was named Chancellor.

I admit to being nothing more of an amateur historian, but it's a bridge too far to compare Weimar Germany with the victory of Trump.

That is such a great explanation of the real “movement”. All it needed was someone who believed WE were right.

Watched Anthony Bourdain’s “No Reservations,” last Sunday night. Yeah I know but I like food shows. He toured Italy and the whole show consisted of him comparing Trump to Benito Mussolini.

“It needed someone who said he could make Italy great again. He was a man on a horse saying, ‘Follow me,’ and they did … It can happen anywhere. It can happen here,” - Anthony Bourdain

The only “echo” of Weimar is a “revolt” against status quo moderates like RINOS.

But the “revolt” was only a vote for Trump, not an actual revolt.

When you see ex-military banding together to form militias that assassinate politicians, THEN you will have a Weimar situation.
