Ummmm....they already did that under Reagan.
“Orderly move many jobs out of the DC area to the states.”
I second that. Particularly with today’s communication ability there’s no need for every gov’t agency to be located in and around Washington DC.
Only those employees initially hired after 1986 are under FERS. Of course, those hired before 1986 are a rapidly declining number.
FERS is a defined benefit program based upon salary history and time in service. Essentially, a FERS receives around 1% for each year of service. It is usually based upon the average salary for the last three years of service. Actually, the three highest years but that is usually the last three. There is also a 401k available.
I work for the Department of Defense and can tell you that I am none of these things. I had a job in the private sector and decided to come into DoD shortly after 9/11, doing basically the same thing I used to do in the private sector (accounting). My pay was about the same (within $700 per year), the medical plan I had was about the same (and cost me about the same). The retirement plan is OK (combination of some defined benefit and some 401K) and the time off is embarrassing (26 days per year after 15 years employment).
And, this plan should have no effect on the DMV, because they aren't run by the Federal Government.
**He is also interested in making it easier to fire workers who perform badly **
Please, could we include senators and representatives in this move?
Georgirat,
I agree one thousand percent with your diagnosis about using modern technology and moving large blocks of people out of Washington and to other areas. Besides the fact that many Federal employees are extremely incompetent, they cluster in these hugely democRAT districts and become a fifth column of the democRAT party. Time to break this cabal up.
....Im actually very interested and excited to see how much wait times decrease at he DMV if/when Trump follows through with this. Suspect the customer service will increase 100 fold when their jobs are no longer guaranteed....
The states, not the feds, run the DMV but I echo your sentiments.
.....I work for the Department of Defense and can tell you that I am none of these things.....
I’m a Dod retiree and ditto.
“Working for the government shouldn’t be a ticket to ride.”
Absolutely not. There are plenty of very hard working government employees. Some are my friends. They aren’t for the job for life concept either.
Move the capitol. That will eliminate a lot of positions.
Postal workers are under FERS. And they are under the Thrift savings plan.
“The press moaned and groaned about poor workers sent home without pay. Those people caught up on home projects, etc., while I worked.”
Or went skiing or snowboarding at the slopes.
What needs to be done is after eliminating 500,000 bureaucrats, move half of whats left of those bureaucrats out of their uppity D.C. offices and move them into trailer offices on the Kansas plains. Put them just outside of hogjaw Kansas. It’ll be good for their economy!
Setup 300 trailer offices and pay them minimum wage for the honor to serve the people.
Whoever is left in D.C., remove all the office doors and monitor and record everything they do. No more closed door meetings for anyone outside of national security. Have their calls monitored and recorded so we can see what the hell these people are doing all day. No more government cars or freebies and axe their benefits 75%. Randomly drug test Congress and the Senate and cut all their income and benefits 50%. And closely investigate/examine all their financial activity every 6 months.
And government contracts will need an entire team to investigate.
Correction, they’ll need and entire Department. Call it the Department of Contract Fraud and Collusion. Or just create a division within the FBI. I bet the fraud in that world is significant.
Whoa, whoa, whoa. Take it easy there, Hoss.
At first blush, you appear to have a chip on your shoulder and are looking for an argument. No where in my post did I mention DoD, law enforcement, or any particular agency. Furthermore, anybody with half a brain and without a chip on their shoulder would know whom I was referring to. Appears you are too dumb to waste anymore time or energy on to convince otherwise, so I won’t. Now go away.
Yes! And not just the federal “work”force, hopefully some of the lobbyists will dry up.
The Kushners can get a good deal when they move there!
401K, is not always the best for the taxpayer, my daughter’s was the best I have ever heard. Contribute 6% we match at 250% and guarantee at 7% interest every year.
I couldn’t believe it, it was way better than my early retirement plan I was gifted with.
Look, newbie, learn to recognize sarcasm. You jumped on that so fast I would guess you need some play-do and a coloring book.
Now you go away.
Net result: 75% reduction in workforce.
Federal Unions are toothless. They will not impede reform in any way.
In reality federal employee totals are about the size they were in Jimmy Carter’s day.
