Story Highlights Heavy snow is blanketing the slopes of Hawaii's peaks.
Snow, there, is not as unusual as it sounds. It can even happen in summer.
Yes, it's snowing in Hawaii, but don't rush to cancel your vacation if you're looking to escape colder weather. This snow is falling over the peaks of the Big Island of Hawaii, including Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for the Big Island's volcanic peaks of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa through late Sunday night.
The warning says that an additional 6 to 12 inches of snow is possible above 11,000 feet through Sunday night, accompanied by south winds from 15 to 30 mph, leading to blowing and drifting snow.

Some How I JUST KBOW that Al BORE I mean Gore, is going to blame it on human caused climate change,
Heh-heh-heh - Snow in Hawaii. So much for global warming....
That is just funnier than watching a one-legged man with a rubber crutch.
Blame globull warming.
What happened to that global warming cr*p?

this is not the first time this has happened you know...
It’s snowing now and could continue all week .
When it is over there will be a nice pack , up top .
1000’s of people will ascend to ski, snowboard and generally play in the snow . Once the road is open . A favorite local pastime is to load pickup trucks with snow and bring it back down to the lower el’s ,and have fun with it in the neighborhoods . It is not unusual to see melting snowmen on the sides of Big Island highways . But it’s weird
Beautiful.
Nature doing what nature does.
We used to do something similar in Florida. There was a local ice-rink. When the Zamboni would clear the rink, they would dump the shaved ice outside. We'd collect it and bring to a Cub Scout meeting for some snow fun.
There is always snow in Hawaii on the Big Island. Mauna Kea is close to 15,000 feet. They have skiing there.
I believe it’s around 13,800’. If taken from the ocean floor, it’s larger than Everest.
I was there in October. It is beautiful everyday...
Looks like an enormous wave with a foaming crest.
On the Big Island you can go skiing/snow boarding and then about an hour later go ocean surfing. A guy from our church is the only licensed snow plow in the state...name is Manuel, except in December he prefers Emanuel.
Al Bore will still Blame Human Caused Climate Change.
I wasa 4x4 van tour guide , going up to the top 4 nights a week .For almost 2 yrs. I have come to to really love that place. It’s so special .
There’s a ski resort there, so you can surf one day and surf the next.
God’s gift to humans is the Hawaii islands.
I spent a lot of time at Pohakuloa Training Area at the base of Mauna Kea when I was in the 25th Infantry back in the early 80’s. I remember it snowed a few times even there at the base camp. I once drove an army Chevy Blazer up to the top of the mountain and met some of the astronomers working at the observatories up there. I recall it looking like the surface of the moon. Very cool place.
Aw, come on, we would do that here in the SF Bay Area when local peaks got dusted. Someone would go up and "import" snow for a GOOD snowball fight. :)
Mt. Kenya - just north of the Equator
