Maybe Hillary Clinton wont need those recount volunteers in Michigan after all. Attorney General Bill Schuette has filed a lawsuit to block the recount demand, challenging Jill Steins standing and pointing out that the Green Party nominee had provided no evidence of any irregularities that would require the state to spend the money and risk missing the Electoral College:
Michigan voters rejected Steins candidacy by massive margins but her refusal to accept that state-verified result poses an expensive and risky threat to hard-working taxpayers and abuses the intent of Michigan law, Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette, a Republican, said. We have asked the court to end the recount which Stein is pursuing in violation of Michigan laws that protect the integrity of our elections. It is inexcusable for Stein to put Michigan voters at risk of paying millions and potentially losing their voice in the Electoral College in the process.
Schuettes lawsuit, filed on behalf of the state, asks the Michigan Board of Canvassers to reject Steins recount request on the grounds that Stein has acknowledged she has no evidence that fraud or widespread errors were committed.

This is a good move by the AG. It puts the onus on Stein who has absolutely no shot at winning MI. Now Clinton must take the lead if she wants a recount. It will expose her hypocrisy, especially since she must overturn WI and PA to make any recount in MI relevant.
...I guess that would start at the Mich. State Supreme Court....
He filed with the state appeals court. He also filed a motion with the state Supreme Court to expedite any appeal coming to them. The State wants this to end now.
This is a liberal tactic to slam the states door on the electoral college shut and disenfranchise all of the states voters.
Silencing and destroying the opposition is what liberalism is all about.
I think they want unfavorable decisions that they can appeal, and use the judiciary to embarrass somehow. All this for an asterisk?
It just gets funnier and funnier.
An asterisk? Yes, she is an ass to risk Michigan’s votes.
I got to meet Schuette at a republican event in Lansing a few years back, and he got my vote. (thumps chest) :)
Minor parties do this crap every presidential election year as a fundraising gimmick, and it's getting old.
HILL and Jill went up the hill to fetch a pail of voters
Hill fell down and broke her head and Jill came tumbling after
I believe the state legislature can appoint a slate of electors if the safe harbor date (Dec 13) can’t be met because of recounts. That’s what the FL leg was prepared to do in 2000.
State Legs in WI, MI, & PA are all controlled by Republicans.
LOLOLOL!
Agreed. The fight going to the courts and the 4-4 Supreme Court and then the House of Representatives is another “election crisis” situation that the trolls like to spread around here in order to polarize the current issue far more than it should be.
I wish l could see the humor, this just feels like the misery that was Nov/Dec of 2000. I just read they “found” 20,000+ Hillary votes in Philadelphia. It’s going to be a long 3 weeks l am afraid.Straight up, they’re going to try to steal the election. They will be fine with any strife that follows they will welcome it. Many of them think it’s time for revolution anyways.
I’m not a lawyer and I don’t even play one on TV, but laws CAN be made which apply retroactively. The “retroactive” issue applies to putting a person into legal jeopardy for an act that had been legal at the time that the act was committed.
If the recount was completed, then they might have problems attempting to collect further funds, nor would that be fair, but this is not the case.
Perhaps, the better nomenclature for this would be “effective immediately”, in that the party requesting the recount would have to pay for the very next ballot counted as soon as the law was passed. This would probably hold up unless the agreement of the state officials to perform a recount was deemed “contractual”.
Stein is a lunatic.
A few days ago she said, “Wisconsin uses voting machines that are outlawed, they are illegal.” Sure they are, Jill. Wisconsin uses machines outlawed by Wisconsin law, what ever you say.
According to Trump’s objection to the Michigan recount Stein neglected to sign her recount petition. What a goofball.
She’s a laughing stock.
The fact that she is only filing in those 3 states and admitting there is no evidence to warrant a recount makes the whole scheme illegal
Ruling on objection by Trump split 2-2 so MI recount goes forward. Next is court suit.
Do you have a link? I’d like to read it.
I’ll see your gaggle of snowflakes and raise you One State Attorney General.
