A couple weeks ago, I taught him a German word for a higher quality of German Riesling: hochgewachs. Last Sunday, during a visit to our local winery, he made good use of the term. As he was pouring Sprite into a plastic cup, he said "Opa, here's my hochgewachs!" Hochgewächs. (Pronounced HOCH-geVEX [with a long "o"].)
"High on the vine."
And I'd like my Umlaut back when you're finished with it, please.
Regards,
