Trump: Flag-Burning Must Have Consequences, 'Perhaps Loss of Citizenship or Year in Jail'
The Washington Post ^ | November 29, 2016 | John Wagner

President-elect Donald Trump on Tuesday threatened loss of citizenship or jail for those who burn the American flag, saying such protests — which the Supreme Court has declared to be free speech — should carry “consequences.”

Trump offered his thoughts in an early-morning post on Twitter, saying, “Nobody should be allowed to burn the American flag.”

But didn't (Obama say he didn't) I don't want to be perceived as taking sides,' Obama said.'There are a lot of people in the world to whom the American flag is a symbol of oppression. And the anthem itself conveys a war-like message. You know, the bombs bursting in air and all. It should be swapped for something less parochial and less bell icose. I like the song 'I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing.' If that were our anthem, then I might salute it.'

That man is still POTUS.....the Trump change is going to be deliciously American.

Funny, the same lefties whining about this would prosecute someone who burned a rainbow flag as a “hate crime.”

I disagree with trump on this issue, as does the USSC.

However, I would make it crime for a non-citizen to desecrate the flag.

Trump is probably joking about making flag burning a crime.

It would be an asinine idea.

“Flag burning should be illegal,”

I agree

and it’s protection , by patriots who happen to be standing by , should not be prosecutable under assault statutes

very dumb tweet if true

court already ruled this is protected free speech

all Trump did here was to invite massive shows of disrespect to the flag and to himself

Is this the top of the food chain for national priorities and world problems?

which the Supreme Court has declared to be free speech

SCOTUS has been wrong, from time to time.

He's not just joking, he's fully trolling the media in the finest of ways.

This was the actual position of one Hillary Rotten Criminal (may have misspelled her name) in 2006.

I disagree with trump on this issue, as does the USSC.

Trump is merely parroting what Hillary said in the Senate. He's going to let these media clowns moan and groan for a day or two and then ask why they didn't get all worked up when Hillary first proposed it.

I think if someone is here illegally, they should be deported regardless.

If someone is here on a visa or a refugee, and they burn the flag, I have not a shred of conscience about deporting them, no questions asked.

That is a different matter. They don’t fall under the protections of our laws as they are not citizens.

Although America is certainly the land of the free, it is a crime to burn a nation’s flag in nearly every country in the world.

Here’s a short list of the penalties in about 45 nations:

The founders never intended for USSC to be the final 7 -9-13 men in robes to be the final end all be all arbiters on all matters constitution. We’ve allowed them a much broader power than what was ever intended.

I disagree with trump on this issue, as does the USSC.

We all have to understand that the Justices are human beings, therefore their reasonings and rulings are not necessarily sacrosanct. The USSC has made many, dare I say it, stupid rulings.

Furthermore, the Congress and Presidencies have, over the decades, negated their duties as a check and balance regarding the USSC.

Perhaps it would do good to read what the founders said about infallible judges and the SC.

I really don’t think it’s a good idea to let people who hate the country run amok and spread their ideology to others.

It’s real damn easy to turn young people against their country.

I also don’t think we should continue to allow universities to purposely manufacture complete sh!theads as a matter of course.

I’d rather they be shut down if that’s what they are going to do.

They aren’t doing anyone any favors at all.

So why do we allow them to exist?

If you don’t like America, then GTFO.

That’s how I feel about it.
