Near Yellowstone, there is an educational center where they have a few nuisance bears that could no longer be allowed to live in the wild. Those bears were lucky, since the center had room for them when they became nuisances. Most nuisance bears are killed.
The bears at the center are used to test bear-proof trash and storage bins. A tasty food is placed inside the container, which is placed in the bear enclosure. If the bear cannot open it within a period of time (I think 4 hours), the item is certified bear-proof. It is a tough standard. The center had some items that did not pass the test, like a metal bin that was torn on the side like a piece of paper.
It was needless, and rangers warned him about that outcome.
