"Drones are particularly irksome in the FLAT parts of the country."

Oh fer crissakes...over 90% of "drones" are small quadcopter toys, little different than model aircraft that have been around for 100 years, and are seldom visible or audible 1/2 mile away. And they are seldom aloft more the 20 minutes at a time.

On the other hand, have you ever gazed upon the pastoral beauty of a wind farm that NEVER goes away? And stretches from horizon to horizon?

R/C aircraft have indeed been around since the 1940's. The early ones used vacuum tube receivers, which is pretty wild to think about. Of course the hobby really took off (so to speak) once transistors came into play.
