...not another cent in federal retirements, social security, military retirement, nothing will be sent to California once they are gone.

Sounds good, but in basic financial terms CA would be better off. They pay more in federal taxes than they get back in federal spending.

I wonder about statements like that; I’ve heard the same for my state of NJ, but as the illegals pile up here I wonder if their costs (often subsidized by federal wealth transfers) are included in the calculation. Like CA, we are losing jobs and American taxpayers while trafficking hordes of illegals here just to prevent ghost towns from appearing. At some point the costs of these largely unemployable people on the dole must reach a tipping point.

I have seen this. I suspect it is a lying with statistics thing. They have a large population that pays lots of Social Security and Medicare taxes.

Lots of retirees leave the state for lower tax environments elsewhere.

You know I keep hearing this but not so sure it is true. Don’t doubt it is true for social program spending vs taxes. But wonder what the total would be if you factor in military, highway, grants for colleges (both research and student), contracts to CA businesses, federal grants to law enforcement.
