Trump's potential for conflict of interest is 'almost infinite'
CNBC ^ | 11/25/2016 | Jake Novak - CNBC

But the biggest Trump fans and "Never Trumpers" alike should be concerned about something we haven't yet quite experienced on such a serious scale in American politics, and that is having a President of the United States who's also the owner of dozens of iconic and eponymous businesses. Oh, and so far that incoming president says he intends to continue owning and running them.

It's not just that Mr. Trump is a businessperson, it's the fact that he has so many varied and well-known business interests that the potential for conflict of interest is almost infinite. This is a far cry from President Jimmy Carter, who was able to solve his potential conflicts simply by handing his peanut farm over to an independent lawyer for his term in the White House.

Our forefathers envisioned citizen elected officials. They assumed that they would have property and wealth. And they did not envision blind trusts. Thats why the President can only be brought down by congress. And is not subject to the rules of other government officials.

If Trump does not keep his businesses then we will forever be stuck with the political class. He should not have to sell anything. And he should not release his taxes. We know Trump. We elected Trump. We are satisfied with our choice.

If he can make a little money on the side while he is serving the American people, then what is the big whoop?

It amazes me that there is this developing liberal meme that Trump will have conflicts of interest as president. The same people who have angst about that, have no worries about the Clintons and their money and how they raised their money.

God! What about Dick Cheney's Halliburton contract for the Iraq war?

His pension was based on the company's profits!

"Trump's potential for conflict of interest is 'almost infinite'"

Yes, because he is so highly intelligent, puissant, and savvy--and there's nothing anyone can do about it.

Especially since his annual salary will be one dollar.
I don’t think he’s concerned about MAKING a lot of money; but with his holdings’ well being. There shouldn’t be any beef if he talks to his kids. Look how Hill talked with Chelsea about yoga, etc./Sarc.

Excuse me! What about Clinton, Kennedys both, Roosevelts both, Romney, and on and on. Trump knows how to meet the ethical challenge.

In WV the new governor is Jim Justice a billionaire dem who has holdings in the coal. Using their logic he should do nothing to improve coal in WV.

Not the best anology, but worth discussing.

It’s easy to avoid conflicts of interests.

Just elect someone who has never accomplished something and had no life before politics.

As Rudy said, when it came to Clinton corruption the media acted like defense attorneys. No matter how many times she took money for favors they kept claiming there was no proven “quid pro quo”. Rudy said of course there was, when you take someone’s money then do someone a favor that’s quid pro quo that he could take to any jury. Now their complaining about Trump’s “potential” for conflict of interest. Typical.

Amazing how he’s suddenly (and correctly) this wildly successful businessman with iconic real estate property, and global business interests.

During the campaign he was nothing more than a bankrupt circus clown selling Trump steaks.

Such lying sleaze.
