We have dozens of forest fires burning in the parched western part of North Carolina with some still out of control and burning thousands of acres. The last figures I heard is it has already cost $20 million just to fight them and the end is nowhere in sight. Firefighters are here from all over the country. There are also forest fires raging in SC, Georgia, Kentucky and Tennessee. The authorities suspect arson, at least in the NC fires.

The pastor at Thanksgiving eve church service lectured us about anti-Muslim attacks in the U.S. and anti-Muslim discrimination and said sarcastically, no one here would do anything like that, would they? I resented being lectured at like that. We all gathered in church to worship God and this visiting pastor turned it into a liberal rant, reminding us that Thanksgiving is not a religious holiday but a secular one for Christians, Jews, Buddhists, Hindus and Moslems. Worst Thanksgiving church service I ever attended.
