I agree with you. Not sure that Romney agrees that he messed up, but I think he would probably do a good job. The Secretary of State position is not a free agent. He serves at the pleasure of the president. He can be replaced. Trump can choose to be vindictive and pay Romney back, or he can put Romney, a well qualified choice, in the position with the benefit of muting the opposition from the never trumpers and GOPe. I'm going to trust Trump on this. He is very savvy. He outplayed Hillary, the DNC, the MSM, Hollywood, the GOPe. This is not a time for knee jerk reactions. It is a time for strategy. Trump is a master at that.

I think Sec. of Commerce might have been a logical spot for Romney, but:
I’m not sure he’d have taken it.
Trump apparently felt he already had somebody better for that job.

Colin Powell didn’t exhibit much loyalty to W in the long run. Romney will get in there and get out before 2020 in time to sling “insider” dirt on Trump before the election that the media will gobble up.

There in lies the problem. Would Mitt serve at the pleasure of Trump or go ad hoc with his own views?
