Jill Stein calling for recount in 3 swing states over hacking concerns

Green Party candidate Jill Stein has announced her intention to request a recount in three swing states: Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin. These are the same states Hillary Clinton was urged to request recounts in by a computer scientist who suggested voting machines in those states may have been hacked by Russia. Stein doesn’t mention Clinton but does say the votes should be recounted because of concerns about foreign government hacking and unreliable voting machines.

Stein’s full announcement was posted on her campaign website. It reads in part:

The Stein/Baraka Green Party Campaign is launching an effort to ensure the integrity of our elections. We are raising money to demand recounts in Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania– three states where there is a significant need to verify machine-counted vote totals. Please donate to this initiative today.

To give you a sense of the problem, the voting machines used in Wisconsin were banned in California after they were shown to be highly vulnerable to hacking and malicious programming due to lacking security features.

There is also a direct quote from Stein who says, “After a divisive and painful presidential race, in which foreign agents hacked into party databases, private email servers, and voter databases in certain states, many Americans are wondering if our election results are reliable.” She continues, “That’s why the unexpected results of the election and reported anomalies need to be investigated before the 2016 presidential election is certified. We deserve elections we can trust.” Emphasis in the original.

It’s true that “many Americans” are questioning the results of the election but almost all of them voted for Hillary Clinton, not Jill Stein. According to the New York Times, Stein received 1.1% of the vote in Michigan and Wisconsin and 0.8% in Pennsylvania. So there is no chance a recount could benefit her in any way, but it could (potentially) benefit Clinton.

Earlier today the computer scientist whose examination of the election results is behind the push for a recount, J. Alex Halderman, wrote a post on Medium arguing that hacking of voting machines by Russia was possible, though he also said he believed it was more likely the pre-election polls were simply wrong. Like Stein, Halderman said the vote counts should be verified for the sake of “electoral integrity.”

So at this point everyone pushing for a recount claims to be acting solely out of concern for electoral integrity, but given the timing of this announcement, the fact that it is focused on the same 3 states Halderman cited and that it mentions hacking as a concern, it’s fair to wonder if Halderman has been talking to Stein’s campaign as well as the Clinton’s campaign. Alternatively, it’s possible Stein was simply influenced by reading about Halderman’s finding. And one last possibility, maybe there some back-channel communication between the Clinton camp and the Stein camp?

The big question now is: Will the Clinton campaign piggyback on this announcement and support a recount (for the sake of “electoral integrity” of course). That would bring a cheer from progressives who are still despondent over the election results. Of course it’s also exactly the kind of challenge to the results which the media and the Clinton campaign ridiculed Trump for refusing to rule out before the election. Does Clinton really want her name associated with a late challenge that is unlikely to change the results?

This is strange. Stein was very critical of Hillary Clinton on Twitter and in interviews in the weeks leading up to the election. She even seemed to think Hillary might get us into a nuclear war. What sort of game is she playing now by trying to help out Hillary of all people?

Yes I believe as well the state elections officials need to deny her recount request on the grounds that Stein will not gain anything to her vote totals and she has no standing to win. The elections officials should state that only Trump or Clinton would have standing to request a recount prior to certification.

I’m pretty sure that the head elections official in each state has the authority to deny Steins recount request even if she can pay for it. More and more I suspect there has been ballot box tampering/stuffing the past two weeks in these three states. I doubt the security for the ballot storage area is top notch and relatively easy for one to tamper with them if they know what they are doing.

Jill, you stupid slut! You didn’t put tin foil on those machines to prevent Russian satellites from hacking them. Although, Jill, you could use a tin foil hat yourself.

Let’s recount those 1.5 million provisional/absentee ballots from Los Angeles County that all went to Hillary this past week.

1981 is the last time the balance of power went from Rat to Republican that they accepted the transition peacefully.

Whether it is the Legislature or the Executive Branch, they throw a fit and claim “stolen”. They still spin conspiracy theories that Reagan stole 1980 from Carter with some GHWBush clandestine conference with the Iranians to hold the hostages.

I don’t think they were even happy about 1969’s transfer of power. Lot of Communists rioting in the streets (but they were already rioting while LBJ was president).

If the recount goes forward, you can expect to see thousands of “uncounted” Hillary votes. Watch for CNN to start the drumbeat on the push for this to happen.

I agree. They’ve had 2+ weeks to stuff thousands of ballots in each of these states! I doubt the county ballot storage locations are guarded 24/7, especially with no election challenges and no auto recounts. It would be quite easy for corrupt elections officials to smuggle in bogus Hillary ballots to existing cast ballot stacks!

That being said, it would look awful suspicious and obvious some fraud was afoot that three states recount totals would be that far different than Election Day totals.

Trump and GOP lawyers may likely still be able to keep their wins in these states if the Rats did indeed stuff tens of thousands of ballots and then challenge Election Day results based on recount numbers in court. They could have the recount totals thrown out due to no ballot security at county elections offices making it easy to tamper with the ballots and I’m sure no direct evidence can be provided by Rat lawyers or their “experts” that hacking occurred in any of these states.

It would still be a good idea if the GOP lobbied the Secretary of State officials in MI and WI to reject Steins recount request based on lack of standing ie she has no chance of winning or changing her results in the election based on a recount, even if she can pay.

PA is different - you have to petition at the county level in for a recount and if numbers are far off, then petition a state appellate court judge to order a statewide recount based on actual evidence something is wrong, not based on theories.

Even Rat election lawyers based in PA are dismissing this recount Hail Mary. They seen for themselves Trump’s PA win was legit and if something was wrong they would be vigorously challenging the election already.

Flipping MI and WI would mean only a couple of unfaithful electors would be needed.

Actually, the couple should be 11 unfaithful if my count is right

Correct. They would need 11 faithless electors if Trump holds PA, but loses both WI and MI, he would still be at 280 EV’s. They may not get any electors to flip, that may be the reason for this last minute steal attempt. The only potential faithless electors to surface are Rats!
