THE Royal Navy has been allowed to shrink to a “dangerous and historic low” leaving it unable to combat global threats, MPs will warn today.

A Defence Select Committee report says Britain will one day be unable to defend its shores unless it increases its “pathetic” fleet of 19 frigates and destroyers.

Only 17 frigates are usable and the MoD is still negotiating on designs and contracts over the construction of replacement vessels

Only 17 are usable and the MoD is still negotiating on designs and contracts over the construction of replacement vessels.

A Defence Select Committee report said the importance of the Royal Navy “must not be underestimated”.

It added: “The current number of frigates, destroyers and personnel inadequately reflects the potential threats and vulnerabilities facing the UK and its interests overseas.”

“Probably looking straight at Paris”

At the French navy, Envious now that it is almost twice the size of the British one, and more than twice the firepower.

First, I think with Bath House Barry gone the world’s grown ups will resume building, training and equipping fleets and troops so we can attempt to wipe muzlim terror off the face of the earth. God help us all.

Second, GREAT title, so evocative for we who have sung the tune. In my case, back in the ‘80s my group of friends included “Uncle Ed”, a Merchant Marine (who is now quite a biggie around Naval parts).

Every weekend there’d be a bonfire at one of our houses, and Uncle Ed would serenade us with many ditties, this one included. And being the handsome, rugged, single Sea Captain he was, all us ladies would swoon. I mean SWOON.

My personal favorite however, was “7 Old Ladies”.

Man, thanks for the memories. Great times, great friends, miss them all.
