A little perspective on the fence. Had a discussion with a former gang member from LA who is all in favor of the fence.

His perspective was that if we build the fence, create a dam, that Mexico will have to build a fence at their ports and southern border. Illegal immigration is a big business for the whole state and if we create a bottle next it will back up. It will create a crisis in Mexico.

He also pointed out that those that leave Mexico and come back are NOT socially accepted by the general population. Much like the military deserters of the 60’s and 70’s here, the only recent example I can thing of.

Further many that come across the border form Mexico are form countries to the south of Mexico and they are lower on the social order than anyone else if sent back to Mexico.

Another point is that rents on the Mexican side of the border are extremely high, reflecting the high demand of the illegal immigration business there.

Documentation is hard. Many/most times the local courthouse and church have been destroyed. So their only option is created documentation. If we stop immigration and do not accept any documentation, then the only recourse is to go back to your local community where people might know you but then because you left, no one will accept you.

It is a messy situation, with no easy solution. If we stop immigration an unintended consequence with our involvement is nation building...................
