'I Have To Text My rapist': Victims Forced To Parent With Attackers By Thom Patterson, CNN November 18, 2016

That's how an 18-year-old Noemi felt when she learned that she had no choice but to hand over her baby daughter to the man convicted of assaulting her.

Noemi's child was conceived in the assault, and Nebraska's laws on parental rights forced her to agree to court-sanctioned visits between her daughter and her attacker.

Noemi with her daughter, who was born after Noemi was raped. Noemi with her daughter, who was born after Noemi was raped. For Noemi, who asked CNN to protect her privacy by not using her last name, it amounts to putting the most cherished part of her life in harm's way.

Her biggest fear is that her child will "get hurt or something bad will happen to her," Noemi told CNN's Lisa Ling. "I can't tell what he will do to my daughter."

Noemi's story isn't unusual. Across America, there are state laws that don't protect women who became pregnant through rape from being forced to share their children with their rapists.

>>None actually... that’s why this is such a farce. They let him plead guilty to groping basically.

So, groping is now called rape? No wonder middle class boys are afraid to date girls these days.

You have it exactly backward. A penetrative rape (there is a baby) is now called a misdemeanor.

The victim now has to interact with her rapist because of a plea deal.

I’ll have to see the facts to convict anybody.

It’s right there in the article. Charged with first, plea deal to 3rd. The victim has also testified in front of the Nebraska legislature.

The man was NOT convicted of rape. Perhaps you should be more orecise in your reading.

“Degrees of Sexual Assault Under Nebraska Law

Nebraska law breaks sexual assault into three degrees,
the first degree being rape.

Sexual assault that amounts to sexual battery (that is, does not include penetration and is not rape) is sexual assault in either the second or third degree, depending on severity.

Sexual assault in the second degree

Where the unwanted sexual contact resulted in a serious bodily injury to the victim, the offender will be charged with a Class III felony. (Neb. Rev. Stat. § 28-320 (2).) Serious injury under Nebraska law includes fractures, bruises, lacerations, internal injuries, dislocations, physical pain, illness, or impairment of physical function. (Neb. Rev. Stat. § 28-363.)

Sexual Assault in the Third Degree

Where the unwanted sexual contact did not result in a serious bodily injury, the offender will be charged with sexual assault in the third degree, which is a Class I misdemeanor. (Neb. Rev. Stat. § 28-320 (3).)”

>>It’s right there in the article. Charged with first, plea deal to 3rd. The victim has also testified in front of the Nebraska legislature.

But, in the same article it does give some details:

In 2011, Noemi was — in her words — a “very naive” high school student with a part-time job at a fast-food restaurant in Norfolk, Nebraska. “I had no idea what sex really was,” she said. “I was just so inexperienced.”
One night after her restaurant shift, a co-worker invited her over to his house, she said, and raped her.

Was it rape or next day buyers remorse? Or even next month? I understand that no means no, but not when you say no the next day.

This is an emotionally-charged and one-sided story. I think that all rational people understand that the media has a problem with presenting all the facts these days.
