Said it during his confirmation hearing during a grilling by one of the lefties.

If 5 (4 with some reservations) Justices want to hear a case, they hear the case and grant certiorari. Roberts could go pound in the sand. Chief Justice is mainly just a title for pomp and circumstance. The only real power would be agenda setting/meetings; however any associate Judge can always make what they “see” known before the rest of the Justices.
