I read the same thing. It’s a great pick....I had hoped Sessions would kick McConnell aside and become majority leader. But, I guess not.

"Great News! TRUMP Picks General Michael Flynn for National Security Advisor " No, No, I have to change the title, "Great News! TRUMP Picks ***FIERY***General Michael Flynn for National Security Advisor " The MSM this morning had the word, fiery, in their announcements, so he must be a danger to the American people as fiery!

Keep it from going? It's gone. Erdogan is working towards total power. He's a few steps ahead of Putin in this regard. Supporting him is like thinking you have to get rid of the Shah of Iran to stop it from going Islamic.

I agree that Erdogan is no friend, but my memory says he was turned in the direction of the radicals. It’s been a few years back and I don’t remember the details.

Perhaps Flynn can restore that old relationship. I remember during the cold war that Turkey was a desired assignment. For that to have been true, there is no doubt that it was friendly to the US. Those citizens STILL live in Turkey.

We need to restore Turkey. It would be a geographic plus to have their support in an era of a resurgent Russia.

I would like an old-Army 4 star to be placed in the CJCS post, and then old army 4 stars placed in charge of each of the services.

We need to rebuild the military from the top down this time. Initially, it’s more important to have non-corrupted generals than it is to have newer tanks, planes, ships, etc.

This may be why PIZZAGATE is heating up in Turkey. It is such a bizarre place to see it on an influential newscast. Last night I had a hard time finding Tweets in English when looking for info on it because they were Turkish

I seriously doubt that anyone can restore Turkey from the outside. Historically, the military was pro-western and secular. Erdogan is pro-Islam and authoritarian and recently anti-American. We’ll see how it evolves. I’m not even sure that Flynn would care. His relationship with other tyrants, like Putin, does not inspire me to think he favors civil and democratic rule.

Thanks for sharing that. I don’t know much about the General.

And, thank you for your service.

Flynn was the Army version of a spook. Don’t forget ‘spy vs spy’ from old Mad Magazine.

I’m hoping for McConnell to be appointed ambassador to someplace far away!

I agree completely! Very few civilians understand just how political the flag officer corps really is and the higher you go, the more stars you wear, the more politicized the atmosphere becomes. As I’ve told a number of people, almost every colonel or Navy captain I’ve ever known thought he or she would become a flag officer and every one star strove to put on two and so on, up the ranks. I’ve known a few who made it into the higher echelons of the flag officer corps despite their unwillingness to play the “political game”. Mike Flynn is one of those and so was LTG (Ret.) John “Jack” Woodmansee, my former division commander. When he was our division commander as a major general (two-star), we used to say of him, “He’ll never put on a third star; he’s too good an officer, too much of a soldier”, but he did.

Here’s a link to an article that Mike Flynn had published by the Center for a New American Security: https://s3.amazonaws.com/files.cnas.org/documents/AfghanIntel_Flynn_Jan2010_code507_voices.pdf.

As a matter of policy and regulation, this should have been approved by the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs and SecDef, but it would have never seen the light of day in its original instantiation if it had gone through official channels, so then-Major General Flynn went around DoD to CNAS to ensure that it did. Despite that fact, Mike did put on a third star and was selected to lead the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), but he wasn’t a “Washington general”, so he was removed early.

Any testimony he gives on Capitol Hill should be very entertaining, so set your DVRs to record anytime he testifies in open session...
