The entire electoral college thing is to be the last stand against electing a dictator, crazy person, or despot.

I am not suggesting for a second that Trump is any of those things.

But, that was the original intent. It is actually pretty cool.

I understand the intent behind the electoral college, but I feel like the human nature of electors can also pose a danger when one party has no honor and is comfortable with using mafia techniques to see that things go their way. Rule of law means less than nothing to these people and, currently, they are still in power, so justice will not be served if an elector is “persuaded” to change their vote. I think in Jefferson’s day, even bitter enemies had more honor than liberals do now.

With regard to keeping a dictator from taking over, I kinda think that is what Hitlery was setting herself up to be. If she had managed to create a little more fraud and tipped the balance her way, I doubt that the electoral college, made up of democrat electors, would have done anything to keep that despot from stepping up to her throne.
