What Trump is doing is schmoozing and mending fences with former adversaries who would be better off as his allies.
He won’t offer them the positions, but he - though the winner - has extended a magnanimous olive branch to them, which they are now - by simple human nature - likely to accept.
Trump is laying the field for his coming “Spring Offensive” by putting out brushfires and turning neutrals - and former adversaries - into allies.
As Rush says: “DO NOT DOUBT ME ON THIS.”

I agree. Anyhow, I'm done underestimating Mr. Trump as he's proved me wrong time and time again over this past year. I'll just defer to his, as you said, genius.
I think it’s probably more than that. If TRUMP thinks
someone would be good for the country; he will put aside
any personal feelings, mend fences, and offer them jobs
that they have a talent for doing. He’s not petty. He
showed that in the interview with what’s her name the other
night. His mind was going a mile a minute and he couldn’t
be bothered with her petty attempts at “gotcha” questions.
He hasn’t got where he is by being an ass.
