The U.S. Geological Survey says it has found the largest continuous oil and gas deposit ever discovered in the United States. On Tuesday, the USGS announced that a swath of West Texas known as the Wolfcamp shale contains 20 billion barrels of oil and 16 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. That is nearly three times more petroleum than the agency found in North Dakota's Bakken shale in 2013. As NPR's Jeff Brady reported, the amount of oil in the Wolfcamp shale formation is nearly three times the amount of petroleum products used by the entire country in a year.

"The Texas discovery is in a place that has been drilled before by conventional methods," Jeff reported for NPR's Newscast Unit. "But now that oil companies use horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing or fracking they can access reserves that previously were out of reach." "Changes in technology and industry practices can have significant effects on what resources are technically recoverable, and that's why we continue to perform resource assessments throughout the United States and the world," said Walter Guidroz, a program coordinator for the USGS Energy Resources Program, in the USGS statement. "Even in areas that have produced billions of barrels of oil, there is still the potential to find billions more," he said. The complete oil and gas assessment is publicly available here. A map shows the six separately assessed regions, designated according to depth by the petroleum industry, that make up the Wolfcamp shale.
GOD BLESS TEXAS!!
Tired of winning!
I’m not.
Obama is still President, so...
Not even close.
Oil & Gas are apparently both Sustainable & Renewable.
Eat sand, Saudi Arabia.
Venezuela and Russia, too.
I share the same sentiment of sarcasm. It is so refreshing after 16 years of Bush and Obama! This is America's moment to come out of hibernation.
The Left and the Democratic Party will cite “climate change” and will do all in their power to prevent the use and exploitation of this huge energy source. If Hillary had won, the NPR reporter would probably would have feared to even make the report. If the Left had won the war on carbon energy sources would have accelerated.
But but but PEAK OIL!!!!!!
I'd take H.W. over Hussein any day of the month/year.
Yeah...he wasn't perfect...but he wasn't Hussein.
Don’t forget 8 years of clinton plus 4 years of that other Bush...it’s been a long time
I’d add 12 years to that 16.
“I’d take H.W. over Hussein any day of the month/year.”
Well, knowing what we now know about the Booshes and having the “hindsight” of their worthless wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, I am left with the sinking feeling that thus far, this century has been a total waste of time! But the war that’s on the immediate horizon is the one with the GOPe and their financial benefactors. They are still not going to let “their country, their world” go to us, their “hired help.” I just hope and pray that President Trump will have the fortitude to “finish them all off.” Because if he’s not successful, there will be other mechanisms employed to handle that task. The right people are now resolved.
“Dont forget 8 years of clinton plus 4 years of that other Bush...its been a long time”
Right! We have not had a president who was for the people since Ronald Reagan.
And to think that we have even more gas in the form of methane hydrates on the sea bottom surrounding our continent.
Then let me give you some bad news — 0bozo is still taking a dump in the WH and muzzies and mosques are still defacing the beauty of our country.
I love peak oil. Every few years oil hits a new peak! LOL
Read “The Deep Hot Biosphere” by Gold (Forgot first name). Oil is continuously made by the rotation of the Earth.
