Russia Joins Aircraft Carrier Combat Club

ARLINGTON, Va. — Russia’s navy has become the newest to launch combat strikes from an aircraft carrier, according to press reports, joining the tiny club of navies that have launched carrier aircraft into combat.

The Russian carrier Admiral Kuznetsov, which is deployed to the Mediterranean Sea, launched strikes in Syria against rebel targets on Nov. 15, according to the Associated Press and Sputnik International. The carrier’s air wing includes MiG-29 and Su-33 jet fighters. The ship lost one MiG-29 on Nov. 13 in a mishap; the pilot ejected safely and was rescued.

Russia joins the United States and France as nations that have launched aircraft into combat in recent years. India, which is building a new carrier, INS Vikrant, operates the former Soviet carrier Admiral Gorshkov, now named INS Vikramaditya. India last flew its carrier aircraft in combat operations in 1971.

The United Kingdom currently has no aircraft carriers, having retired its combat-veteran Invincible class, but is building two Queen Elizabeth-class carriers. Italy operates Harrier jets from its carriers Giuseppe Garibaldi and Cavour. Brazil operates fixed-wing aircraft from the São Paulo. Thailand operates Harriers from HTMS Chakri Naruebet. Spain decommissioned its Harrier carrier, Príncipe de Asturias, in 2013.

China declared on Nov. 15 its first aircraft carrier, Liaoning, as combat ready.

Maybe someday. Right now it is like riding a moped into a gay suburban book club. Obozo would not authorize a response if Russia rammed a US ship. He is a coward and a blowhard. Putin knows it and Obozo knows Putin knows it.

These new carriers being built will likely have neither planes to launch nor missiles to defend themselves - if they can even finish them or afford the fuel - if the UK continues on its military austerity path.

Worry Not—History isn’t done with England. The carriers will be launched and she will have planes—even if they are Russian or French, and yes, she will have rockets too. There will always be an England and a Royal Navy as well.

Yes, but if the cuts keep up the RN will consist of row boats - as right now there are no longer any missiles available to attack or defend
Royal Navy to lose missiles and be left only with guns (Harpoons to be retired)

This article is one of the worst ones I’ve seen for a lack of comprehension and connectability.

TITLE: Russia [finally] joins exclusive club of countries with combat-tested aircraft carriers!

Russia joins US and France as combat-tested carrier operators. Oh hey, India has a [Russian] carrier. But, their old carrier is the only one that did combat ops, back in ‘71.

Also, the UK lost their carriers, like Spain (building more though!!!). But Italy, Brasil, and Thailand have carriers! [What combat ops have any of them done?]

China wants to play! [Again, what actual combat ops has the Chinese carrier been a part of?]

[Oh hey, did anyone mention Japan? The country with the second most combat carriers after the US? Or are we just not counting WWII?]
