Eliot Cohen, a former State Department official under President George W. Bush, is advising other Republican foreign policy experts to “stay away” from Donald Trump’s transition team just days after he encouraged them to help the president-elect.
"After exchange [with] Trump transition team, changed my recommendation: stay away,” Cohen wrote on Twitter Tuesday morning. “They're angry, arrogant, screaming ‘you LOST!’ Will be ugly.”
ADVERTISEMENT Cohen was the driving force behind a letter signed by dozens of former Republican officials during the campaign denouncing a Trump presidency as “dangerous.”
Last week, however, he struck a more conciliatory tone by trying to reassure those worried about the president-elect.
In a column in the American Interest published days after Trump’s election, Cohen dished out advice for foreign policy experts who have opposed Trump on whether they should accept a job in the administration.
“Yes, with two conditions, however: that they keep a signed but undated letter of resignation in their desk office (as I did when I was in government), and that they not recant a word of what they have said thus far,” Cohen wrote.
Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Mich.) announced early Tuesday that he is leaving Trump's transition team.
Rogers, a former FBI special agent and chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, is highly regarded among GOP leaders and was seen as an invaluable national security voice for the incoming administration.

Actually, I don’t understand why they bothered to bring up Mike Rogers name in this article. I’ve not seen anything that says he left under hostile conditions.

Thank you for “warning” them off, Eliot. The LAST thing an anti-establishment outsider like President Trump needs is the “help” of the 95 (or whatever number) establishment GOP national security “experts” (who already attacked Trump in writing) in perpetuating their antiquated and failed foreign policies.
President Trump will implement the first U.S. foreign policy that’s completely freed from the shackles of WWII and cold war thinking. Europe and the rest of the world don’t get it (yet), but President Trump’s going to withdraw from international conflicts (except ISIS) and U.S. world policing duties left over from WWII and the cold war, and focus almost exclusively on domestic policy, fixing the many things broken about our country and let the rest of the world take care of itself for a change.
President Trump will reach some kind of agreement with Putin, and then bow out, and let Europe fend for themselves against the Russians. If the Germans and other European countries want to hollow themselves out with unlimited immigration of Muslim peoples so backwards that flush toilets are a major challenge and then are unable to deal with Putin because of such poor decision making, then so be it.
The Koreans and Japanese will be given the go ahead to build nuclear bombs and build up their military and then THEY can deal with China and the NORKS militarily, not us.
President Trump will still guard the oil in the Middle East but make the oil countries pay for the guarding.
For the first time, the world will be able to take care of itself without the backing of U.S. industrial might, because the parts of the world that matter now have their own industrial might. They’ll also have to learn good decision-making as well, without having Uncle Sam to bail them out should they make fatal mistakes.
Yes, by all means Eliot. Tell your friends to stay away from the Trump team. Good idea.
Dodged a bullet when Mike Rogers stepped away. He and his wife, Kristi, are toxic and would be obvious targets of any “drain the swamp” effort based on the 7-point plan outlined in the Gettysburg speech on October 22:

So, the Uniparty/GOPe infiltration by Rogers was a failure. Interesting.
The RINOs got spurned again, I see.
Until they show up with something of value, they have nothing to trade. “Reaching across the aisle” would NOT serve the Trump team well, if it is to be all one way, Republicans reaching out to Democrats, and the Democrats never reciprocating.
But the Democrats might not even want anything. They surely have very little to trade.

Works for me Eliot. I hope Trump stays far away from you losers, some of your arrogance and stupidity might rub off on him and his selections.
The Republican congress is going to be a big issues in Trump’s initiatives. They are going to fight anything the Chamber of Crony Commerce disagrees with. Trump is going to have to call their bluff and let them know he will run against them in 2018 if they want to go that route and make them out to be obstacles to his policies every bit as bad as the democrats and then finance and run candidates against them in the primary and if need be independents in the general election. The GOPE must die for the country to live.
