Billionaire Tom Steyer calls on Obama to block offshore drilling
Politico via Hot Air ^ | 11-14-16 | By Esther Whieldon, Politico via Hot Air John Sexton

Billionaire environmentalist Tom Steyer is calling on President Obama to permanently ban offshore drilling in the Atlantic and Arctic using his executive authority.

From Politico:

NextGen and White House officials have discussed the possibility of Obama using his executive powers under a section of the law governing offshore drilling that allows him to “withdraw from disposition” any section of the Outer Continental Shelf that has not already been leased for oil or gas drilling…

Steyer’s group says more permanent protections are available using section 12(a) of the OCS Lands Act. Similar to the Antiquities Act, which presidents can use to create national monuments to permanently protect parcels of land from development, Section 12(a) does not include language that allows future presidents to undo the withdrawal of offshore areas from future leasing.

“We know that this idea has been under serious consideration in the White House, from direct conversations, but we don’t know where they are in that process at this stage,” said a NextGen Climate America official who requested anonymity and would not say when the conversations happened.

So, because this section of the Act doesn’t specifically say it is reversible, Trump would need to go to court to try to reverse it. That doesn’t mean he couldn’t do it, only that it might be a new precedent if he did. Politico spoke to a former Interior official who says, “ “No president has ever rescinded an open-ended reserve under this, and so there’s no litigation history.”

The other part of this story that is interesting is that Steyer seems to be revealing the White House was quietly considering doing this anyway.

Wouldn’t he reverse it and then they would have to go to court to stop it?

I’m sure doing the bidding of rich Democrat environmental wackos is WAY up there on Trump’s list of things to do.

These idiots just need to go away.

This low-life Steyer ran a particular ad here in California that used Trump’s words out of context when Trump referred to certain illegals as murderers, drug dealers, rapists, etc.

You thought Al Gore was a shyster on the environment? This guy’s worse.

“Hey Steyer, ESAD!”

FROM WIKIPEDIA:

. . .n 2004, Steyer was criticized by UnFarallon, a group of student activists at Yale who discovered that much of Yale's endowment was in Steyer’s fund. The protest soon spread to Stanford, which also had millions invested with Farallon. The protest centered on Steyer’s supposed investing in companies with anti-labor and anti-environmental policies.[9]

A July 2014 article in the New York Times, headlined “Aims of Donor Are Shadowed by Past in Coal,” detailed several examples of Farallon investing in coal. In addition, it was learned that even after their divestment, Farallon-funded coal projects in places like Indonesia and China would continue. Environmentalists were disappointed by the revelations and GOP leaders called it a blow to Steyer’s credibility.[51]

In October 2016, Politico reported that under Steyer’s leadership, Farallon Capital had invested tens of millions of dollars in private prisons.[76] According to SEC filings, Steyer was at the helm as the hedge fund purchased nearly $90 million of Corrections Corporation of America stock, equaling approximately more than 5% of the company’s shares.[77]

University of San Francisco law professor Constance de la Vega criticized the Farallon investments as appearing antithetical to Steyer’s avowed progressive politics.[78]

Billionaire Tom Steyer couldn’t care less about a rise in oil prices due to supply shortages.

Styler ran hundreds of millions of dollars worth of ads, constantly attacking Trump, pushing billions in new taxes, and more overreach of state government.

Wonder how he feels about blowing that cash now?

Ayup.

Then while that was going on, he'd issue drilling rights to a dozen companies and use the oil as part of the national military reserve and protect the drilling under the National Defense Act.

Electricity from nuclear reactors, parceled out to Friends of the Reich, constantly evaluated from implanted computer chips connected to the cloud.

In Silicon Valley? Yeah, it's like that.
