I think Bill started to falter in his speeches in August or September. I don’t think he had a good answer for veterans who asked him about Benghazi (did he? I do not recall for certain). I don’t think his heart was in it. I will go further to guess that Bill disagreed with at least some of Hillary’s positions and strategy. Bill always used to promote the third way, whatever that was. I will try to define it as some way to avoid direct conflict through a combination of log rolling, compromise, and redirection. I did not see much if any evidence that Hillary was willing to compromise. From my point of view (admittedly that of a libertarian hetero male), Hillary was always hard left, and hard feminist. IMHO this would have to have gone counter to Bill’s grain to defend. To me they had a difference of style and substance in speaking. Half the time Bill seemed to be trying to evade the topic and half the time Bill seemed to be trying to reconcile Hillary’s hard left positions with the center. Bottom line, Bill’s instinct is to wobble towards the center while Hillary wobbles hard left. Bill did not have his heart in many of Hillary’s positions.
You are so right. I agree with you in that Bill’s heart was not in it.
