Gov. Charlie Baker, the state's most prominent Republican, did not cast a vote for president of the United States for the first time in his life today.
"This is the first time I haven't voted for president and I'm obviously disappointed about that," Baker said outside The First Church in Swampscott, where he was 40th in line to vote - his wife Lauren, 39th - at 7 a.m. in a 35-degree chill.
Baker also passed on penning a write-in candidate. "But you know what? I have lots of friends who are voting for Hillary Clinton. I have lots of friends who are voting for Donald Trump, and I respect their opinion and I respect their decision," he said.
"I said many months ago that I wasn't going to be able to support Donald Trump for a number of reasons" he said of his party's candidate, "and that Hillary Clinton had believability problems. And nothing's happened in the past nine months to change my mind on that.
"Look, everybody gets to make up their mind on how they want to respond on Election Day," Baker said, when asked how voters might view his example to skip a check mark for POTUS. "The good news here is we had a million people who turned out before Election Day and based on the lines ... it's going to be a big turnout day here in Massachusetts."
Most importantly, Baker said once the final results are in, "It's going to be really important for people to send signals and to do things that support the notion that we are still all in this together."
Baker did divulge that he voted for Republican Anne Manning-Martin for Essex County sheriff, saying, "I think she's a terrific person."
As for the four ballot questions, Baker voted no on slot machines, yes on expanding charter school choices, yes on improving the lives of farm animals and no on legalizing recreational marijuana.
We’re both disappointed, Charlie.
Not much of a leader. Can’t make choices that are going to happen.
He’ll be really dissapointed after Hillary wrecks the country for decades to come!
From the Most Patriotic State
To the Most UNpatriotic State
And even the publicity seeking Governor can’t keep his FMS
If its not important to stop Hillary, then why is it important to elect Republicans?
“”It’s going to be really important for people to send signals and to do things that support the notion that we are still all in this together.” “
Nope. We are not all in this together, you cuck.
So leave the Republican party you s.o.b.
Worthless POS.
By making his non-choice so public, he is helping Hillary by FAR more than one vote. This is an obvious voter suppression strategy by the elites.
The boob is no leader. He could have written in a candidate—including himself, or Mitt, or whomever.
If Trump narrowly loses it will be in no small measure due to the back-stabbery of the GOP establishment. Time for a re-alignment, whichever way it goes.
Screw YOU, showboat ... why did you tell the press, then ?
You aren’t really a Republican if you’re elected governor of Massoftwoshitts. Romney is another shining example.
FURINO.
And, FURNC
And, while we are at it, FUDNC.
In fact, FUDC.
Regardless of the election outcome, the coming civil war in the Republican Party will be epic.
What an A-hole.
So brave.
/sarc needed ?
Charlie, it’s ok to think it, not ok to brag about it. Ass.
Well, Charlie, Hillary thanks you for making the hill she has to climb that much smaller.
