DC should be expanded to encompass its suburbs.

But, under no circumstances, should it become a state!

DC should be expanded to encompass its suburbs.

Why should those suburbs be pulled into that cesspool?

Why should those suburbs be pulled into that cesspool?

So that their voters are unavailable to swing the states in which they currently reside.

The whole reason DC was created in the first place was because they did not want the Capital to be part of a State...otherwise they would have just left it as part of Maryland. If they want to be a state, just give them back to Maryland.

As for their 3 electoral votes - they should actually be collectively assigned to “all non-State U.S. Territories” and not just DC...in exchange give their Delegate a vote in the House since they do pay taxes, but no Senate seats as they are not a State.

“uh, no. half to Md. and half to Va. no 2 senators guys, sorry.”

It’s absolutely ludicrous for the population of a medium size city, less than the average congressional district, to demand statehood and 2 Senators. Your suggestion is the only option if they really want representation, and hopefully loss of many of the perks that go with being the capital - simply make them part of the states from which they were originally withdrawn.

DC reverts to MD and VA state land. The capitol must reside on non-state land.

As for pitching statehood to Congress, Bowser said she stresses that D.C. statehood doesn’t have to be a partisan issue.

Yeah, right.

Yes. DC was defined in the Constitution as a Federal enclave. Amend the Constitution to make DC a state? Don’t think so.

IIRC, the original law that established the DC stated that if the Federal government no longer needed an independent district for its capital the land would revert back to the state of origin. This is what with Alexandria, it went back to Virginia. So, give the District back to Maryland.
