State legislative elections, 2016 ( Also at stake on Tuesday)

On November 8, 2016, 86 of America's 99 state legislative chambers will hold elections. In 43 of the 50 state senates, 1,212 seats will be up for election. In 43 of the 49 state houses, 4,711 of the country's 5,411 state house seats (for a total of 87.0 percent of seats) are up for election. Altogether, 5,923 (80.2 percent) of the country's 7,383 state legislative seats are up for election in this presidential election year.[1] Of those nearly 6,000 seats, just 3,446 seats (58.2 percent) feature two major party candidates in the general election.

Yes, many of the future U.S. Congressmen and US Senators come from the state level. And many of the Republicans need to be reelected in 2020 for redistricting in 2021 2022.
