I paid fo both of my weddings-—there will never be a 3rd.-—and I can say that I own everything I have today. I like the ‘old iron’—so my vehicles are a 1976 Chevy dually 1 ton truck & a 79 Buick station wagon. Combined mileage==almost 560,000 miles. Truck higher. Still drive both.
I own my property & all my furnishings. I can leave all my belongings to whomever I wish, and have a small insurance policy to pay any outstanding bills when I die & enough to bury me. I have told my nephew—who has 3 kids-—NOT to give away or dump all the kitchen utensils & tools I own. IF he puts all the utensils on a large table & sorts them into 3 piles, his 3 kids will have ‘starter kits’ for when they have their first residences away from home. Same for the tools. The prices of all these items have gone up significantly, and the uses for all of that stuff are the same as ever. IF he tried to buy new items for all 3 of them, he could easily spend $2000 for each one. The tolls would cost even more. Furniture can be picked over by the kids, also. Solid oak dining room table & chairs—wrought iron kitchen table & chairs-—bedroom furniture that is solid wood. Plenty of books & bookcases &other items that can be used. Otherwise—give away the old couch & chair . Cedar chest, Grandmother’s twin beds, etc, all have a use. He told me that he had never thought about how all those items could be useful for his kids.
