2,700-acre fire in North Georgia prompted officials to close some key trails in the Chattahoochee National Forest Its remote, very rugged, and we are extremely dry, said Jeff Gardner, a ranger with the U.S. Forest Service who is based in Chatsworth. He said the fire, which is burning north of Ellijay and west of Blue Ridge, started from lightning.

A nice area I’d like to live in.
Now would be the time to buy...
Must have had a Trump sign on the property....
We are in a terrible drought here at the moment. I can’t even remember the last time it rained.
The first time I ever experienced a real drought was when stationed at Altus AFB in the late 70's -mid 80's. Everything was brown and crispy. We had enough ground water saturating things that the grass is still pretty green and still growing (usually stopped by now) despite the long-term lack of rain.
Prayers that the drought doesn't cause too much of that beautiful country to burn. When I retired, I would have loved to move to northern Georgia or Tennessee for some seasons (originally from the Rochester NY area and can do without them Winters - even though a Southern Summer is every bit as brutal for me as a NY Winter - them Polish/Slavic genes don't mind a bit of cool) but the wife moved here from Ohio many moons ago to get away from any form of cold so I opted to keep Momma happy and stay where she loves it. Worked out OK as we were able to retire as we reached 62 (she's a cougar who took advantage of a young stud 2-1/2 years her junior) so I won't complain. Keeping the wife happy has resulted in a love story that I never dreamed possible.
But I wax "TMI" - hope to get some rain starting this week and maybe you will also get some benefit if it moves in the normal NE direction.
Hasn't rained in nearly a month and then only a little rainfall.
“Hasn’t rained in nearly a month and then only a little rainfall.”
Same here in Colorado. We’ve haven’t had any rain in over two months.
“”I cant even remember the last time it rained.””
I was writing it on my calendar as it was happening nearly every day for weeks but I stopped...I know I was turning off my computer more often than normal - not just shutting it down; day and night. Definitely very dry and the leaves are very brittle underfoot...
I can’t remember the last rainfall. I live on the edge of the courts wilderness around grassy mountain. Visibility is very low from the smoke. I hope for rain soon.
Should say cohutta wilderness. Spell check fail.
I have friends selling a place on Blue Ridge Lake. Really nice area.
