A heavy dousing of autumn rain in Northern California has lifted a quarter of the state out of drought, the highest percentage in more than three years, according to a new federal report Thursday.
Water officials who oversaw mandatory water conservation by cities and towns emphasized three-fourths of the state remains in the five-year drought.
"Droughts are like recessions. Recovery from a recession doesn't happen overnight; recovery from a drought doesn't happen overnight," said Max Gomberg of the state Water Resources Control Board.

The rest is a desert.
The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmedand thus clamorous to be led to safetyby menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.H.L. Mencken
So now they can lower out water bills that they raised because of the drought, right?
I won’t hold my breath.
didn’t seem out of the ordinary to me. normal rain storm for this time of year. bs meter pegged again.
I’m no weather guy, but wonder how much of the drought is self inflicted. By turning off the water to fertile farm lands to protect a bait fish CA allowed untold acreage to turn into a dust bowl. My thought process is that by not watering the crops, there was less water evaporation to feed rain clouds. I might be wrong, and if so, someone in the know please correct me. PS: Follow the money on all the farms that went bankrupt due to CA’s stupid decision on the bait fish and watch who buys those farms right before the water conveniently gets turned back on.
Thanks to global warming.
most of the drought is manufactured. the reason for the drought is not change in weather but a rise in demand for the water that there is and because California has neglected its water infrastructure building for the last 40 years.
Combine this with purposely flushing a lot of the water into the wetlands surrounding san Francisco you get a bad situation that is causing the small farmers to go bankrupt. this is all being done so that key farm land can be bought up at low prices. eventually this land will be valuable again when the state spends the money to build the infrastructure needed for the farms and stops wasting the water by flushing it into the ocean.
California is in a life time drought now. Truck water south from the Northern rivers. Siphon the Colorado river, bring water south to LA BUT save the river smelt. Import more illegals. Palm Springs needs a new golf course and Nor Cal needs more housing on farm land. Been going on my whole life.
For the last 150 years California has experienced higher than normal rainfall relative to the previous seven thousand years.
The last 150 years marks an increase in solar magnetic activity. Also the 1850’s coincides with the recovery from the last mini ice age conditions begun in the Maunder solar minimum.
Arid is the normal condition for much of California—this is just a return to long term normal for the region. Time to move toward desalination as a fix for the water demand issue. Make use of Israel’s hard won expertise on production of fresh water and agricultural water management practices.
North Western California is at 700 % of normal for this time of year and it is raining Cats & Rats at this moment
