My dismay is NOT at those, like you, forced into this disaster. I am one myself.

The people I am angry at are the pols like Obama, and idiots who fall for what he says...

If you want an accurate comparison you have to do it by age and county. There can be significant price differences even in state. I live in downstate Illinois and premiums for a 60 year old are a couple hundred per month more than in the Chicago area.

Interesting. Providers in places like Effingham or Carbondale charge more? Or the people are less healthy?

I’d think it’d be the other way around.

I also wonder where these news outlets get their figures, such as 45% and 51% increases in IL (from a somewhat lib outlet.) The words “up to” were left out?

Yep. I checked Carbondale and it is about the same as Champaign. I am guessing it is a combo of different insurers and smaller insurance pools.

The press accounts are fairly accurate. Insurers submitted their rate hikes for approval in the spring. Approval notices filtered out during the summer.

Ok, so it would be correct to say that while premiums run higher in downstate IL, the % increases are similar statewide. Right?

Correct the rate increases were huge state wide. For Champaign last year a 60 year old would pay over $500 per month for a Bronze plan. They are now over $800 per month non subsidized. That stinks. My employer’s Cobra coverage is a bit more than that, but at the gold level. I suppose that will be adjusted in short order..
