WEST PALM BEACH, Fl. - It was the first day of open enrollment for plans for 2017 under the Affordable Care Act and Floridians are looking at a hefty price increase.
According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, premiums in the Sunshine State are set to go up by as much as 27 percent. Other states are looking much worse. Oklahoma is looking at a 75% increase.
Lyne Holue will lose her coverage on Dec 31st because her current carrier dropped out of the market, leaving only three to choose from and leaving her unsure where to turn.
"I don't know what's going to happen," Holue said.
"Pricing, the plan and the network," Gannon said. "You really have to find a good combination of all three and that's not so easy. The plan might look good but there might not be a doctor in your area."
For many Floridians, including Holue, another rise in premiums is a heavy financial burden.
"I'm wondering: Do I need to get another job?," Holue said.

For 2016 the silver policy for my wife and I has cost $1151/month, in 2017, they want $1957/month for the same policy.
A 66% increase (I’m in Texas). That is more than all my other monthly bills combined...
This is just another reason Trump will win and trash this hideous Obamacare.
People eligible for bronze exchange plans only get their premiums subsidized. People between 138% and 250% FPL can get additional cost sharing subsidies in addition to premium subsidies. This lowers co-pays and deductibles. However, they have to buy the silver plan which has higher premiums.
What is your deductible to go along with those insane premiums?
So, the bottom line is that they are still paying these deductibles.
IIRC, the silver deductible in Florida is $7400+
Oh, how inopportune for Her Infernal Malevolence... especially with Trump barnstorming Florida.
Well, don't spend it all at once! That should pay for... well it will pay for an ice cream cone.
Sounds rather high for a silver plan. In my part of Illinois Bronze is still ~$6500, with silver in a range of ~$4000-$5000. It kind of depends on how co-pays and total out of pocket are blended into the plan. Somebody at 150% FPL might only have to meet $1K or less with a subsidized silver plan.
Not only has Obamacare destroyed healthcare, it’s also destroyed the job market. Try to get a fulltime job today with any big company, they only hire part time so they don’t have to deal with Obamacare.
$1250/per person - no co-pay on anything. My wife cleared her deductible in the first month with her prescriptions. Took me about 6 months. It is an HMO so you need a referral to see anyone besides your primary care physician.
That’s one way they’ve ‘added’ jobs. To make 40 hours an employer now has to have 2 workers.
Also, if the worker has to get 2 jobs to make ends meet, they each count as a job in the jobs numbers.
I don’t know if Trump talked about that, but that is something that should have been focused on like a laser. Plus if Hillary wins she wants to go to single payer, full socialized healthcare while we are $20 trillion in debt. So we will go from part time jobs to NO jobs! This psychotic b*tch is going to bring us straight down to 3rd world status.
I agree with you. Hillary’s plans are insane, her actions are criminal, and her very thoughts are probably evil continually.
I heard social security recipients will get a $3.72 raise in 2017.”
Think that is an average increase? That means we will get a little more of our we already paid in - in my case for 61 years. And am still paying as I have been self-employed for the last 30 years and pay both sides. Haven’t heard yet though how much our deductible will go up.
It is in California. My premiums have a subsidy but in 2017 the premiums will increase by 24%, the subsidy will decrease and my deductible will be $6,500 ... and that's for the cheapest plan.
I am dropping out in 2017 because you can qualify for a financial hardship if the premiums are 8.3% of your income. In 2017, they will be 11.5% of my income.
My healthcare premiums (family of 4) is increasing from $1239/mo to $2219/mo - and that is with a $5K deductible!!!
This is NUTS!
Obama is such a LIAR - KEEP YOUR PLAN, KEEP YOUR DOCTOR, YOUR PREMIUMS WILL GO DOWN - ALL LIES!!!
THIS IGNORANT BUFFOON IS EITHER INCOMPETENT, EVIL, OR JUST PLAIN STUPID!!!
Thank god for employer based plans. Mine only went up $5 a paycheck next year...for me and my kids.
Your prices are crazy. Your monthly premium is more than my 15 year mortgage payment. In my area with you 2219 payment I could pay for a 3000+ square foot new home with 80 acres of land and outbuildings.
“From the article it looks like someone has a nice little business going helping people through the maze.
Obamacare will be Obamas legacy.”
We had to go through this recently. The title for these people is, officially, ‘pathfinders’.
Think about that.
