I knew a highly intelligent, gifted, physically fine, raised-Catholic, very morally serious young German, a Russian-English-German translator --- this was 30+ years ago, so he must be in his 50's by now --- who told me he was getting a vasectomy. He explained that all the young men of his age/social group, about whom he would know such an intimate detail, were getting themselves sterilized, or had already gone and done it, as well.

I was shocked, and I told him any sort of self-mutilation, self-maiming, but especially to destroy your reproductive capacity, is immoral. He said, rather, that it was immoral for Germans to reproduce, since they were historically such warmongers and racists. So, since he was against abortion (the ethical residue of a Catholic upbringing), sterilization was the perfect way to prevent that, and also reduce Germans down to a more humble level vis-a-vis the rest of the world.

He called it "demographic justice."

I called it "sick, irrational inherited guilt". I urged him not to do anything so destructive and drastic. He was amazed that I didn't agree with him, and then said, "Well, not being German, you wouldn't understand."

Germans felt so bad about what they did during the Holocaust, that they brought in millions of Muslims who hate Jews even more than the Nazis did.

And now they've imported exactly that to replace themselves.

They would have done better to stand pat. Would that his 20yo version could have seen the present situation...where is a time machine when you need one?
