The Justice Department has told a federal judge that a former National Security Agency contractor took home records containing the names of U.S. spies working undercover, information that is considered among the nations most sensitive and closely held secrets.
Much of the information taken by Harold Hal Martin III, who was arrested in August and has been charged with stealing classified information, was on computers or thumb drives, prosecutors said. But Mr. Martin also had thousands of hard-copy documents containing highly classified information, the Justice Department said in a Thursday court filing.
Numerous intelligence sources and methods for highly sensitive intelligence operations would be rendered useless should they fall into the wrong hands, the Justice Department said in what amounted to its most extensive summary of the value and sensitivity of the documents that Mr. Martin allegedly removed.
Mr. Martin stored the stolen information at his Maryland home, a shed on his property, inside his car and on his person, the Justice Department has alleged.
The latest accusations came as the Justice Department and Mr. Martins attorneys continued to battle over whether Mr. Martin should remain in custody pending his trial.
On Friday a federal judge ordered Mr. Martin to remain in custody, affirming a ruling by a different judge last week.

President Trump is going to be working with a gravely wounded HUMINT capability.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Obama sabotages what’s left of our overseas intelligence assets on his way out if Trump wins.
I don’t see any intent here.
“I dont see any intent here.”
Actually, from all the reports I’ve seen about this guy, there might not be any intent. They’ve made him sound more like a hoarder than a spy.
That said, he had an amazing amount of stuff that he wasn’t supposed to have, and of course, nobody would say anything about what he might have given to unfriendlies.
What about hacking? Perhaps he gave nothing - but instead his home files were hacked?
Oh, right, I forgot: The "Hillary Excuse."

obama’s federal government is corrupt AND incompetent ...
thinking back to the Senate Church Committee years ago, on to today - our political class has caused the death of quite a number of undercover operatives working for the CIA and NSA over a number of years. Maybe that is why we need to rely on British, French and Italian counterparts for information. Spies are afraid to work for us.
