While the Bundy supporters continue to celebrate the acquittal of all 7 defendants, the prosecution is taking hits for reinforcing the narrative of government overreach.

It is widely held that the prosecution in the Malheur Protest Trial would have easily won a victory if they had not got greedy and attempted to go for the maximum prison sentences possible. They could have gone for trespassing or vandalism, but have stated that they chose they higher charge of conspiracy because of the amount of prison time involved.

They wanted the Bundy’s in jail for a very long time. It seems that they needed to send a message to the American people that disagreeing with the government will not be tolerated.

What about the trespassing, vandalism, violence & looting of other groups whose protesting they tolerate?

Yep. The whole protest never went beyond criminal trespass and maybe vandalism. What’s that a fine and 90 days in the county slam? If that.

The government always over reaches on the ordinary citizen and when it come to Hillary they do not reach at all. It would serve the public well when they sit on a jury to pay careful attention to the real motive in a prosecution. If you think it is about truth you have no idea what has happened in America.
Lawyers are getting filthy rich because they run the government and the legal system. There is no room for a lay person in either of these.
America is getting closer and closer to a dictatorship. It is already run like the Mafia.

So if they were acquitted of the charges, what does that say about the ambush and needless killing of LaVoy Finicum?

What did the FBI think the protestors were doing that was so bad that two Federal officers had to lie and cover up shooting at Finicum’s vehicle as it approached the road block?

I have never approved of overcharging as leverage, and I’m glad they finally got burned for that corrupt practice. Charges should be appropriate, and the charges in this case were not. It’s time for the federal government to retreat to its proper constitutionally-limited powers.

It says to me he probably overreacted and should have just complied with orders like the rest of them. He’d be a free man and alive today.

The ex-defendants should also be lawyering up to sue themselves into a nice payday.
