(TEXAS TRIBUNE) Late this summer, former Texas Gov. Rick Perry strongly encouraged U.S. Rep. Michael McCaul to challenge U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz's re-election bid in 2018, according to GOP sources.
The encouragement, which was relayed to The Texas Tribune by two Republican sources familiar with the correspondence, came around the same time that McCaul, an Austin Republican, emerged as a top potential challenger to Cruz's re-election efforts, amid an outcry among many grassroots conservatives over Cruz's decision not to endorse presidential nominee Donald Trump at the Republican National Convention.

I am hoping that this is one of many names that will be looked at in the next 2 years. They have to have the BEST conservative to beat that creepy liberal Cruz. Shouldn’t be to difficult. Cruz is horrible. One of the worst in the Senate easily.
I’m basically with Trump on trade.....so McCaul is less than impressive on this issue. We all know what Cruz pulled on voting for TPP.

he has handed Trump the only tool that stands a chance of letting him do what he has bombastically declared he would do.
Congress will be doing their best to make Trump fail, but Cruz has given him the aces he needs to beat them at their own game.
