Let’s review, shall we?:
Bill and HIllary Clinton were responsible for introducing Huma Abedin to Congressman Anthony Weiner in 2008, at about the time Weiner was gearing up to run for mayor of New York City the following year.
In May 2009, the two announced their engagement, but that same month the New York City Council voted to extend term limits for Mayor Bloomberg. Weiner was obliged to announce that he would not run against the popular incumbent, opting to wait until Bloomberg’s term would expire in 2013.
In July 2010, Abedin and Weiner were married in New York with Bill Clinton officiating. By the end of that same month, Weiner had already banked more than $3.9 Mllion toward a campaign that was still four years away. About a third of that amount was bundled by Huma from the Clintons and various FOBs (Friends of Bill).
In May 2011, Weiner sent a sexually explicit picture of himself to a woman who was following him on his Twitter account. At first he denied it and claimed that his Twitter account had been hacked, then he admitted it but aggressively resisted calls to resign his seat in Congress. Finally, in July 2011, he held a press conference to announce his resignation. He had a lot to say during that bizarre event, but this exchange struck me as especially pertinent:
Reporter: “When did you tell your wife?”
Weiner: “MY WIFE HAS KNOWN about some of these online relationships SINCE BEFORE WE WERE MARRIED, and we spoke frankly about them because—WE ALWAYS SPOKE FRANKLY ABOUT THEM.
“But she didn’t know until this morning that I had not been telling the truth about whether I had posted the Twitter posting last week.”
If Huma knew BEFORE SHE AGREED IN 2009 TO MARRY WEINER, then surely SECRETARY OF STATE HILLARY HAD TO KNOW, TOO.
And, given Hillary’s much-publicized history with Bill and his sexual predilections, I have to suspect that she may have known about Weiner’s behavior even before Huma learned about it. If you think it about it, As Secretary of State, she would it would have been pretty stupid of her not to check out Weiner’s background before encouraging her protege’ to marry the guy. Either way, if Hillary didn’t know or care enough to distance herself back then from a loose cannon like Weiner, she can hardly expect to do so now.
So Wiener’s known history notwithstanding Hillary trust Huma, of all people, “like a second daughter” and had Huma continue to go through the wacky rigamarole of downloading classified documents to her Yahoo email account in order to print them out so that Hillary could have a hard copy and not have to try and read them on her Blackberry.
Despite having had to resign from Congress in disgrace in 2011, Weiner was still determined to run for NYC mayor as planned in 2013. He still had that $3.9 Million in the bank, and by March 2013 he had increased his war chest to $5.1 million, largely through Huma’s bundling efforts.
But in July 2013, Wiener was discovered to have been sexting with another woman. Weiner held a press conference, this time with a grinning Huma by his side, to announce both that he would continue his campaign and that more lewd photos of himself probably would surface. Weiner would wind up finishing last in the Democratic primary.
In August of this year, Weiner was again discovere to have been sexting to another woman, this time sending lewd photos of himself with the couple’s young son lying alongside him in bed. Coming in the midst of Hillary’s Presidential campaign, Huma announced that THIS TIME was the last straw and that was separating from Weiner with the intention of divorcing him.
In September (little more than one month ago), it was further revealed that Weiner had been sexting with a 15-year-old girl in North Carolina, an allegation that got the FBI involved. Agents seized various computer devices in Weiner’s possession, one of which was the I-pad Huma had used to download classified State.gov classified documents.
