BOSTON (CBS) There are many reasons why the NFLs ratings are down in 2016. You may be dismissive of the very idea that the backlash to the national anthem protests, sparked by the 49ers Colin Kaepernick, has played a role in the NFLs TV ratings, which have dropped by about 12 percent year-over-year. To continue to dismiss that is to blatantly ignore legitimate data on the subject.
A fresh poll from Seton Hall surveyed 841 adults across the U.S. Each respondent was asked to identify seven separate factors as a reason for the NFL ratings drop, allowing them to answer yes or no for each of them. The leading factor, according to the poll, was the national anthem protests, which scored yes at a rate of 56 percent.
Other answers also scored yes at a high rate, including 50 percent of yeses for coverage of the presidential election, 47 percent for the leagues handling of domestic violence cases, 44 percent for the over-saturation of the market, 39 percent for increased interest in postseason baseball, and 33 percent for controversy over head injuries and player safety.
Interestingly enough, the lowest score, tied with player safety at 33 percent, was a decline in quality of play on the field. Many would cite this as the overriding factor to all of this, and it certainly is factoring in. Its easier to turn the games off for other reasons if the games arent fun to watch in the first place.
4TH quarter, 4th down, 1 yard to go, 2 seconds remain, and the NFL fumbles.
Funny how the Democrats were able to successfully get the BLM cretinism to shut up for the election, but Kapernic didn’t get the memo and has single-handedly kept this anti-American crap plastered all over the place.
...in the groin
On 106.7 The Fan radio station they discussed the drop in ratings for an hour. Not once did they mention the protests. Their reasons were the teams playing eachother or over saturation of the market.
This is in gthe DC market.
I think it is time for all of us to get serious about our country and this Fascist business. National Anthem nonsense is exactly like Obamacare and that is that good people are made to swallow something they intensely dislike. Forget football and basketball for this entire season. Remember they also made us swallow the ALL Star game and bathroom controversy by moving the venue. It is high time to make the NFL and NBA eat it bigtime by forgetting about them.
Professional football has become politicized like everything else the left touches. Marx said everything, absolutely everything, is political. Through Ayers, Solinsky, Obama and Clinton we’re seeing Marxist doctrine overwhelm every aspect of our lives. The propaganda is becoming so pervasive as to be impossible to ignore.
I think the next boycott should be the outlandishly priced sports wear and shoes. For parents giving in to the demands of their kids it represents a huge chunk out of the household budget.
It will be interesting to see the ratings for the Super Bowl this year.
“Keep it up plus the product sucks”
In addition to the national anthem nonsense, the whole 25 yard line BS did it for me, no more NFL for me. I’ve been a die hard Cowboys fan since the early 70’s and it’s been surprisingly easy to cut the cord.

Any organization not explicitly right-wing sooner or later becomes left-wing.
I thought they’d never own up to the fact that the “boycott” is hurting the nfl ratings... I love the way they tried to skate around that for weeks. Clearly it’s having an effect and clearly our voices are finally being heard!
“Take a knee”....wtf...now this lame disrepectful behavior has a name??? It’s called kneeling. Nothing clever or “cool” sounding. Just plain old kneeling. Taking a knee...nonsense!
Who knew insulting the customer base was bad for business?
I like the Puppy Bowel. Hubby will have the game on, AFTER the Anthem, he wants to see these cretins get creamed, and cause he doesn’t want to hear me gripe. I read a book on my Kindle and take out my hearing aids. Hard to change a 77 yr old.
Exactly!
They can’t respect the flag, the country that gave them very lucrative careers, they don’t deserve their salaries.
Very short-sighted to politicize a sport that appeals to people of all backgrounds, political stripes, incomes, etc.
Pretty sure NBA has contract language that all players will stand for the anthem.
