New Mexico has a lot of Hispanics. Several polls have come out in the last few days (Florida, Virginia) that have Trump gaining ground and doing surprisingly well with Hispanic voters and at 30%+ is above where Romney was. Strangely enough, if you dig deeper in the polls there is a huge Hispanic gender gap, Trump is getting close to 50% with Hispanic men and only around 20% of Hispanic women.

I don't know the reason, but I remember during the primary that sociologist was saying that Trump was doing so well in the Republican primary among Hispanic men because he played well to their cultural "machismo" basically they respect a candidate that talks and acts hyper-masculine and comes across as a tough guy, on the other side of the coin, I doubt an elderly women who can barely stand is exactly going to rally them.

Bingo. All the “women” stuff? It actually works with AA men and Hispanics.

I have many Hispanic male friends who are voting Trump. But, we have a lot of relocated CA, IL and east coast liberals here who don’t remember why they left there to be in the Land of Enchantment. Before the influx, even dumbocrats were actually quite conservative in their values.

I find many Hispanic women are radical feminists. What I mean by that is when non Hispanic women were on the feminist bandwagon big time years ago the Hispanic women of that time that I knew were not interested. Now I find Hispanic women ages 18-about 45 are pretty outspoken feminists in a way I haven’t heard others talk in about 40 years other than hardcore feminist leadership.

One of my daughter’s Hispanic friends hit me over the head with this recently. A man she had been dating for a couple of years was ready to talk marriage...she broke up with him instead. She said he told her he didn’t want children raised by day care. She said she took this to mean he expected her to give up her career to stay home and clean house and raise the children. I asked her if he said that, she said no she ended the conversation when he said that. She said she told him if he expected to marry a woman that would stay home and scrub the floors on her hands and knees and raise a house full of children like her mother did he needed to go to Mexico to find a wife.

I was shocked because I know many married couples that work out child care issues and don’t give up careers. My daughter told me all of her Hispanic friends are like that; independent, career focused feminists; they are pretty radical to the point they don’t plan to marry.
